EVERYONE ASKS: "What kind of music do you play?". I always answer "It depends on where I'm playing. I do everything from mellow art galleries to clubs and hype parties". I pick music reflecting the venue, people and energy of the night.
I have a love of hip hop and soul, a penchant for baile funk and hollertronix, a crush on soulful and tribal house, an affinity for electro-freestyle, a lust for downtempo and ambient, a craving for mash-ups, a fondness for dancehall, enthusiasm for afrobeat, an infatuation with dubstep.. you get the picture.
I have been on the radio and djing since 1994. I started out doing a show on KZSC and went on to work for a label, NuGruv Alliance with Stonesthrow, Quannum, Project Blowed, J5, Zion I and a gang of other talented folks. More recently I've been swept away by djing live in clubs, fashion shows, poetry slams, gallery openings, retail spots, festivals and parties.
I love playing cross-genre sets without boundaries and without commercial music. My style gets appreciated and I'm a lucky mofo to get invites to dj with super-cool djs who I respect a ton like ?uestlove, DJ Language, Aloe Blacc, Pam the Funkstress, DJ Vadim. I also jump on the tables when artist friends like Ab Rude or Talib Kweli doing a show in my area. I've been around the US and would love to get out more.
Right now I love throwing together a set that includes hip hop, deep house, electro, dancehall, hollertronix, soul music and mashups.
People also know me for having written music reviews and interviews for Urb Magazine for 10 years.
