The Oblivious Driver

About Me

I’m starting a new group. Here is brief explanation of what I’ve done, what I want to do, and who I want to do it with.I have been in a band called The Atma for about 9 years. We recently split due to creative differences. All the songs at this link were recorded by that band: http://www.bandmix.com/the-oblivious-driver/ It was a three-piece, edgy, versatile, soulful, and energetic. What knowledge we lacked about music and songwriting in the beginning, we made up for with vibe and conviction. We had a good following, it was a great run, we are still good friends, but now it is time for me to pursue the next manifestation of my creative impulses.I want to start a band that is versatile, willing to explode and to subdue itself, can jam balls improvising and can orchestrate powerful arrangements, can go ape-shit, groove, swing, shuffle, syncopate, rock, funk, two-step, or play delicate with brushes and has the musical ability and diversity to pull it all off with style. My influences are many. Here are some of the artists I dig most:Hendrix The White Stripes Cream Velvet Underground The Doors Os Mutantes Bob Dylan Nirvana Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Radiohead T Rex Creedence Clearwater Revival David Bowie The Pixies Black Sabbath Elliot Smith The Entrance Band Fleetwood Mac The Handsome Family Queens Of The Stone AgeIf this list resembles yours, that’s a good thing. If not, that is potentially ok too : )I am a very ambitious and inspired person and I have big goals and dreams for my music, both artistically and professionally. I am looking for people who want to really get into the nitty-gritty, dial in a badass sound, make records, and play the hell out of live shows. I like to rehearse often and write often. I like to find new ways to reinvent old songs, to vamps endings, extend jams, tack on surprising intros, weave a piece of poetry into the mix. I think a band should always keep itself on its toes. I am very into lyrics and spend a huge amount of time writing the words to my songs. I like musicians who know how to accentuate the vocal, drop the dynamic to deliver a powerful line, and play in a way that enhances the impact of the words and their meaning.Music is a huge priority for me, not just a hobby and I like to work with musicians who know their shit, who are driven, who have killer chops, and can adapt to different styles. I throw curve balls at my band all the time and I admire creativity most of all.I have been jamming with several musicians lately, but none have sold me completely, so I am interested in meeting moreDRUMMERS and BASSISTSHowever, if you like my school of thought and you play KEYS or GUITAR or BOTH, I would like to know what you are all about as well. I am open-minded at this point as to what the line-up of this group would be. A three-piece could kill it, but a Ray Manzarek would be welcome in my world to be sure. That being said.If you think you fit the bill, I’d love to hear some of your music and know what you are looking for. Its hard finding good players out there. I’ve never met one band mate off the internet before, but I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Good luck…SeanA.K.A The Oblivious Driver(818) 274 8062 [email protected] [email protected]> The Band is Going to be called: The Rock And Fire Band P.P.S.
