ANOMIE

Anomie, a state of lawlessness, best describes what this group aims to achieve in their music. Together they have created a unique sound that is built on a relationship between various musical genres and experiences. It is in this regard their music could be considered developmental. The listener may perhaps hear the best of two musical traditions, or possibly a dialogue between two wills?! Compelling melodies and exquisite sounds.
Daniel and Erik are former students at Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. They are working with several groups and theatres in Sweden. During 2006 they have recorded a new album, released in October. It has been very well received from critics, media as well as the audience.

“Anomie Orchestra is not an ”orchestra”. It´s a duo, but the name still makes sense; the airy, flowing arrangements and melodies have a distinct orchestral ambiance – if on a smaller scale. Daniel Carlsson on saxophone and Erik Söderlind on guitar have arrived at a profound level of mutual musical expression. With sensitivity and playfulness they move forward side by side throughout this meditative “folk-jazz”.The duo creates an exceptionally compounded sound - a musical atmosphere in which one easily looses oneself. Songs like “Talgoxen” and “Ågren” are small, bittersweet pearls. Pure, flowing and with just the right touch of melancholy.

Daniel Carlsson on saxophone and Erik Söderlind on guitar form the duo “Anomie Orchestra”. Filling a CD featuring only two instruments with enough substance, isn´t easy. Yet here, it works. The material is varied but not disparate. Daniel Carlsson´s soprano saxophone sounds throughout the entire CD and his mastery of this complex instrument is gentle and pleasing. The opening track is meditative and searching with a strong sense of harmony. Listening to these two young musicians play in such a relaxed way with no need to prove their cleverness is truly uplifting.”
