About Me

I'm a photographer based in Montreal. For my personal projects, I shoot primarilly B&W film with a fully manual and mechanical rangefinder camera with prime lenses only. For work, well, it's another story (and not a love one!).

"Exploring darkness" is probably the best way to describe my approach of the medium and subjects. It also goes hand in hand with my hedonistic vision of life. I'm definitely more comfortable at night and darkness has always been associated with pleasure for me. All forms of darkness, not just the lack of light.

Besides photography, I've gone back older roots: music. I have recently started a music project. A lot of energy is being put in it these days. Photography will have to go on the back seat for a while.

A picture may be worth a thousand words but music is the key.

My Interests

Photography, of course.

Music is extermely important in my life. I don't spend much time without music. It's part of almost every moments in my life.

Besides that, anything that can procure pleasure. I'm definitely an hedonist.

I'd like to meet:

If you understand what precedes and follows, if you are not constantly torturing yourself uselessly like an emo, if you like things straight and forward, if you simply want to enjoy life, one day at a time... start writing. Clear enough?

Music:

Almost everything. Although there are some types of music I don't really enjoy much (hip hop or dance for example), if it's well made, I'll probably appreciate it. I can stand spending a night in a dance club because of friends but I won't add that to my playlist.

Most of what is heard in gothic clubs, from the old classics to ebm and industrial, ends up on my daily playlist and helps maintaining my sanity at work (and my coworkers alive). When I'm in a more subtle mood, or should I say hedonistic, I go for smooth stuff. Ambient, lounge, trip hop, classical, medieval, jazz, blues.

I also love to discover new stuff. Recently, Maïté made me discover some of her favourite Japanese bands. Now, Shiina Ringo can be heard frequently in my home.

Here 's a list of albums that are amongst my favourites because I consider them to be very close to perfection. Each one is a whole, creating a particular emotional environment in which one can experience various sensations and moods. Their perfection comes from the fact that all songs are as important and as well made as the others. There's balance, sometimes in a monolithic way, sometimes in an evolving mood. Simply put, these albums can be played in loop for hours, creating an atmosphere in which you can relax, meditate, let go of everything or make love. So, here are my favourites (not an exhaustive list):

-Script of the Bridge (The Chameleons)

-Disintegration (The Cure)

-Les Accords Nouveaux (Pierre Gaultier Orléanois)

-Dummy (Portishead)

By the way, Portishead is excellent for Shibari. ;o)

-Logos (Tangerine Dream)

-Tangram (Tangerine Dream)

-Into The Labyrinth (Dead Can Dance)

I am now back to composing my own music. I started a music project I named Delayed Echoes. Check the banner on the right to learn more about it.

Recently, Ayub Ogada's music has been very important as it has been an inspiration for my my Delayed Echoes project.

Movies:

As for music, I enjoy lots of diferent styles. However, I really have a hard time with comedies, psycholgical dramas, love movies and horror movies in general. Comedies have to be very intelligent to be good and it doesn't happen often. Psychological dramas... I don't watch Oprah and Dr. Phil. Love movies... what can I say? Horror movies: I get quite pissed off at the idiots doing everything any living creature with a few brain cells working would avoid because it's obvious even to a rock that it'll get you into trouble. Just shoot the damn thing and let's move on!

Movies I love that come to mind right now... Blue Velvet, Wings of Desire, Das Boot (WW2 movies in general), A Midnight Clear (WW2 again...), La Vie et rien d'autre. The list could go on and on...

Books:

De brevitate vitae (On the Shortness of Life) by Lucius Annaeus Seneca.
