I am the daughter of Gaius Octavius and Atia Balba Caesonia, the grand-niece of Gaius Julius Caesar, and the elder sister of Rome's first emperor, Augustus. Augustus and I were very close, and it is said, I was one of the few who held influence over him, due to my noble character and tender attachment to him.I was born in Nola, Italy and traveled with my parents until I married Gaius Claudius Marcellus at the age of 15. After the death of Caesar's daughter Julia, who was married to Pompey Magnus, Caesar desired me to marry Pompey, however Pompey married otherwise and I remained with my husband. We had three children together, two daughters and a son, Marcellus, who was a noble, handsome boy.Marcellus left me widowed at the age of 29 and I was promptly married to one of the most renown men in Rome, in order to cement his alliance with my brother: Marcus Antonius.Though I was widely admired throughout the Empire as a virtuous and charming woman and universally thought superior to Cleopatra in beauty, Antonius fell back into old habits and returned to his mistress, despite the two daughters I bore him.Despite this insult, I remained loyal to my husband, graciously hosting his friends in Rome while he dwelt with his Queen in Egypt. My brother, appalled by the ill-treatment of his dear sister, summoned me back to his house, but I refused to be the cause of war and stayed. After Antonius' defeat, I took custody of his children both by Cleopatra, and by his former wife, Fulvia and raised them as my own. However, my darling was alway my dear Marcellus and he was my brother's favorite as well. But the gods took him from me and I never recovered. I retired from public life and died of grief. In death, my brother honored me with a public funeral and built public buildings in my name. He made me a goddess and erected temples in my honor.
