About Me
Nick Baynard, a.k.a. “Young Nickâ€, is an Austin based hip-hop artist and emcee who is quickly on the rise in the area music scene. Nick first started working on his craft over lunchroom battles while residing in Reston, Virginia. Growing up as a military brat, he benefited from moving around the country as he was able to study different styles of hip-hop from Virginia, D.C., Seattle, and eventually Austin. It was when Nick settled in Texas that he decided to concentrate on his own unique music interests and projects. He quickly released two mix tapes, The Campaign Trail and The Inauguration, which enjoyed acclaim at local music stores, all while unveiling his own label, Dirty Politics ENT. Aside from his own mix tapes, Nick has appeared on the From Austin to Boston mix tape, The Kingpen Compilation Album mix tape, and The Formula 512 mix tape which gained much attention in the Austin area by making the Austin Chronicle “Top Ten Best Hip-Hop Releases of 2003.†In February of 2006 he released WDRT; Radio Volume 1, the first of a three part series with the other two volumes already cut and scheduled to release by April 2007. Young Nick has also appeared on The Poetry Of the People album released by Trashman ENT., The M.I.R.A.G.E album released by Melodic Science Recordings, and The Plant The Seed album released by Word Power Productions. He is also currently working with Arson Optics and Kaizen on the Word Power Life Project and has collaborated with artists such as Tee Double, Mirage, Arson Optics, Element 7D, Pop and Mr. Blakes. Nick is currently working on his debut album, the highly anticipated From The Chest, to be released on his own label Dirty Politics. This is Nick’s first all original, full length, industry cut. In the spirit of self-sufficiency, Nick has built a recording facility, The Lions Den, in his own home. This is where the cutting, pressing, recording, and distributing for his first two mix tapes were done and also the recording site for From The Chest. Young Nick not only practices dedication in the studio, but also believes in being an active participant in the live music scene. Nick is regularly performing in the Central Texas area and has performed in San Antonio, Houston, and L.A. From 2005 through 2006 Nick performed every other Monday night at the Whiskey Bar as part of True School Mondays put on by Vital Notions and Music N Mind Promotions. Young Nick has performed on stage and hosted events at Antone’s, The Flamingo Cantina, Emos, The Victory Grill, Caribbean Lights, and Club 115. He also had a booming show at the Backroom as part of the 2006 South by Southwest Festival. Always on the steady grind, Young Nick was just recently named “Most Local Viewed Hip-Hop Act of 2006†by the Austin Chronicle. Stay tuned in because things just keep getting better and better!
