Black Oysters

About Me

The revival of electronic music and especially the hausse in the elektro scene in Europe has seen a booming of old and new dj's and bands. One of them is Black Oysters, formerly known as Oysters Playing Hockey, inspired by like-minded bands such as Motor and Vitalic.
Started in the spring of 2006 by former Severall frontman Niels Tubbing and a friend not in the band anymore, the main goal of Black Oysters has always been to make raw and brutal yet intelligent and melodic elektro. The first year wasn't really a succesful one, mosty due to lack of financial means and university obligations, but in June 2007 Tubbing teamed up with Mark Leendertse, drummer of the Dutch rockband Misunderstood. Leendertse also has a recording studio, the Big River Studio, where Black Oysters are now busy working on their first demo recording, Oyster Noize.
In July 2007 a third member has been added to the Oysters squad: Bart Secker (Brel). Brel's task is to invigorate both the music and the audiences with crazy shenanigans. Together their aim is to bring a variety of tunes ranging from raw elektro to crazy drum 'n bass, not only with computers, but also with live instruments.
In November 2007 Mark Leendertse single handledly pushed Black Oysters to the fore with his grand remix of Joy Division's A Means to an End. Now, A Means to a Freaky End has become the anthem that the Oysters needed to propel themselves and their music to new levels. At the moment they are working on their new studio, which will be ready for take off in September 2008. With a new studio at hand, new songs and more tunes will be released. Right now Black Oysters are a duo consisting of Mark Leendertse and Niels Tubbing for the tunes, with Bart 'Brel' Secker as VJ and entertainer.
Black Oysters played their first ever show in February 2008 at the great Diemen Goes Electric Part 3: Dirty Rock!-party, with great enthusiastic reactions of the audience. The Oysters will be ready to unleash more live shenanigans on unexpecting audiences in late 2008 and early 2009. Be ready.
