myspaceeditor.itDeathstars was formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in the year 2000. It was formed by members of 90s thrash metal bands Swordmaster and Dissection. The original lineup included Andreas Bergh(Whiplasher Bernadotte) on lead vocals, Erik Halvorsen(Beast X Electric) on guitar, Emil Nödtveidt(Nightmare Industries) on guitar and keyboards, and Ole Öhman(Bone W Machine) on drums. The band was signed by Universal released their first album, Synthetic Generation in Sweden in 2001. There were complications getting the album released internationally with Universal, so Deathstars made a new deal with Nuclear Blast Records. Snythetic Generation was then released in Europe in 2003 and then the Americas in 2004. There were two singles/videos for this album, Synthetic Generation and Syndrome.Deathstars played a number of gigs in Sweden in 2002, moving on to do some shows in Europe in 2003, and a few festivals in 2004.During the recording of the next album, Erik left the Deathstars. He was living too far away from the studio and was having trouble coordinating with the band. After this, Jonas Kangur(Skinny Disco) joined to play guitar and do backing vocals. The next album, Termination Bliss was released in early 2006. This album continued on the Deathstars style but it was slightly more refined, and was a departure from the angry, i-don't-give-a-fuck emotions portrayed in Synthetic Generation. Band members were going through a particularly difficult phase in life during the recording of the album, including the suicide of Emil's brother, Jon. This comes through in the album, which displays a much greater depth of emotion. Emil writes most of the music and lyrics, but the whole band contributes their input. The first single and video for Termination Bliss was Cyanide, which was released in December 2005. The second single, Blitzkreig was released in October 2006, along with a video. Both videos were shot in Belgrade, Serbia.Deathstars did a large amount of touring throughout Europe in 2006, including shows with Cradle of Filth at the end of the year. A new member joined half way through 2006, Eric Cat(Cat Casino) who plays guitar. The band will continue to tour through the middle of 2007.The date for the next album is not yet known, but it is expected to possibly be released in 2008.Deathstars have often described their musical genre as "Death-glam", a mixture of darkness and glamour and they say it's all about embracing the darkness within.
