About Me

Colin Corner currently plays with the Minnesota Orchestra and the Jetsam Organic Ensemble. He joined them in August for the 2006 European Tour. Colin just spent a year with the Vancouver Symphony after having played in the Louisiana Philharmonic for two seasons. In Vancouver, Colin played with Paul Plimley, Randy Raine-Reusch, and the Turning Point Ensemble. While he lived in New Orleans, Colin was promoted to assistant principal bass for the 2004-05 season, served on the education committee, and played jazz and free improv around the city. Colin jammed with Dave Anderson, Dr. Jimbo Walsh, Dave Easley, 'sat in' with Ellis Marsallis, and played in the New Orleans New Music Ensemble. Originally from Indianapolis, Colin studied with Peter Hansen, Bennett Crantford, and Bob Goodlett of the Indianapolis Symphony, and went on to graduate from the Interlochen Arts Academy in 1999. Mr. Corner received his Bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 2003, where he studied with Lawrence Hurst and won the 2003 Bass Concerto Competition. Colin subbed in various orchestras around the state of Indiana, including the Indianapolis Symphony, and played a one week internship with the Detroit Symphony as a result of a winning the International Society of Bassists Orchestral Competition in 2003. A recipient of numerous awards, Colin won the 3rd Prize at the 2001 ISB Orchestral Competition, and received the Interlochen Double Bass Class Studio Award at the Interlochen Arts camp in 1997. The award is now called The Colin Corner Award, and is awarded to the most improved bassist almost every summer. Mr. Corner won a three year Fellowship to the Aspen Music Festival in 2004, where he studied with Bruce Bransby and played in the Festival Orchestra. Colin also attended the Indiana University Summer Music Festival and the Music Academy of the West, where he was a finalist in its annual Concerto Competition. In September 2005, Colin toured California with El Radio Fantastique, a band he joined in New Orleans. Look for El Radio on MySpace. Colin plays on a bass made by Albert Jakstadt in 2001.
