Nerve Centre

About Me

Nerve Centre is a four-piece 'indie-rock with a pinch of grunge' band based in Birmingham, UK. The band was formed in October 2007 by Irishman Ronan Fitzgerald to play his songs, and comprises Ronan on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Hans Alarcon from Darkest Peru on drums, James Foster from Tamworth on lead guitar, and Glenn Vogt from Germany on bass. The band is based around Aston University, where Ronan works, where Hans and Glenn study, and where James used to study. Nerve Centre was the first Aston band to release a commercial single, and to crash myspace, and to feature in the commercial section of the Aston Times, which said:
'With catching tunes and an electric performance the band will have you shouting, singing, dancing and throwing your head up and down in an eyeball damaging fashion'.
Nerve Centre have also received airplay on Ireland's i102-104fm radio station. In January 2009 The Pigeon Detectives' Ryan Wilson told Ronan that 'Karaoke Kings & Queens' was a 'really good song'. Between March and October 2008, Nerve Centre recorded some tunes with Trev Gibson at Circle Studios, Birmingham (www.circlestudios.co.uk) and have now decided to let people buy them. They are super-mega-excited to be the first Aston band to have their music available on iTunes, AmazonMP3, and Napster. This release came in the form of their EP, ‘The Droids You’re Looking For’, which came out on 4th December 2008. Yay! Buy it on iTunes here -
In December 2008 Nerve Centre supported John Power who used to be in The La’s and Cast. In February 2009 the band sold out their headlining gig at Birmingham's prestigious O2 Academy 3 (formerly Bar Academy) venue. In May 2009 they were the first band to ever play on the roof of GateCrasher, Birmingham as part of the Propaganda club night. Playing on the roof makes them the same as The Beatles and U2. The exact same! Nerve Centre keep getting told they sound like Nirvana. They can’t actually hear this themselves, but won’t complain. While Nirvana are an influence, other influences are Oasis, Thin Lizzy, Popup, Ace Bushy Striptease, alcohol, girls, orange triangles, and marmalade sandwiches.
