Alice

There's a great big world out there with no fence around it.

About Me

I'm a buckeye, a teacher, a new yorker, a sailor, a triathlete, a reader, a writer, and a mathematician. In spite of my extensive training, I do not consider myself a philosopher, an artist, a runner, or a world leader. I can laugh for hours on end in the company of friends, but will only crack a smile on a bad date. I am nothing like and exactly like my crazy younger brother. I am passionate about the environment except on sunday afternoons when I race up and down the lake in a power boat or when I desperately need to fly to southern California -- but then I blame the powerboat and aviation industries for failing to produce hybrid or solar alternatives.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

People who can handle me. I talk really super fast. I can be excessively bubbly. I have been called a communist. (* I am not a communist.)I would not mind meeting communists, brazilians, people who want to start an ngo, boys who do run (not used to run), grandchampion sudoku players, anyone who wanted to be an astronaut when they were 10.

An unblog for my #7 (alphabetically)

My #7 (due to alphabetizing by last name) posted the following question list and I found it equal parts cheesy and interesting. So I've decided to post my answers here.Top SixDON'T change your myspac...

Organization

My last cell phone died when I tried to swim in the Pacific Ocean, and I replaced it with an LG phone at the Sprint store. It's a thick but narrow little flip phone with a camera that I didn't want, ...

cheating on new york

Manhattan is an island, but for a water girl, it's not enough.  The rivers are dirty and flow through valleys below the granite cliff face.  So I find myself on summer weekends floating away...

from yesterday, on a plane somewhere over Missouri

It has been many years since I read a book in a day. Since between dawn and dusk I have read a single novel uninterrupted, taking no notice of passing hours nor measuring and monitoring the pages pe...

heart locked, brain open

Posted below is a mix of memoir and fiction. It's all true in the sense that it's all true to me. It all came from my head, it's all indicative of how I think. It's a series of super short post-mod...

marketing

I'm very interested in good advertising. I hate it when people change the channel because I like watching commercials. I love that walking through New York exposes me to brilliant print advertising....

mapping things out

Once upon my freshman year in college, I set out for Boston with one pal, two suitcases, a computer tower, and a set of directions I'd printed off of mapquest. We didn't take any actual maps and prob...
