Stefano Pierini

I graduated in composition with Gilberto Bosco in the Conservatory of Turin in 2005 and, since then, I enjoy a scholarship from the Association for Music DE SONO of Turin. I had also participated as to a one-year conducting course with Emilio Pomarico at the Scuola Civica of Milan. I am currently studying composition with Fabio Nieder as a guest student in the Amsterdam Conservatorium. In 2003 I was one of the 50 composers all over the world to join the Kompositionwettbewerb 2003 in Dresden organized by the Volkswagen. The same year the composition TAKSIMLER was awarded in the 4th Internation Composition Contest EURITMIA of Povoletto (Udine). In 2005 I had attended masterclasses with Joshua Fineberg (Harvard University) and Brice Pauset (Ircam) at Villa Medici in Rome. The composition AD INSULAM DULCAMARA was performed by the Antidogma Ensemble during Settembre musica 2005 in Turin, and the composition CHUK’URTMA was premiered in New York by the New York Miniaturist Ensemble. In 2006 I joined the Centre for the Electronic Music Research AGON Arsmagnetica invited by Luca Francesconi. I assisted him too in the realization of the scores of two of his compositions (ETYMO II, BODY ELECTRIC). I am one of the 7 young composers chosen for Stresa EARlab 2006 workshop holded by Luca Francesconi, during which was performed the composition SKETCHBOOK in the concert season Settimane Musicali di Stresa by the norwegian ensemble BIT20, and, still with Francesconi, I had attended a two-weeks course at Malmo Academy of Music (Sweden).Since 2006 I started to collaborate with Universal Ricordi Editions as a proof reader in the contemporary music section. In the same year I made arrangements of a selection of Shostakovich’s stage and orchestral compositions for LES SALON RUSSES, a project conceived by Liza Wilson for the Holland Festival 2006 with the actor Hans Dagelet and the ’mise en espace’ by Pierre Audi. The arrangements were played by SOIL Ensemble of Amsterdam. The same concert was repeated during Settembre Musica 2006 in Turin by XENIA Ensemble and the actor Eugenio Allegri. At both concert attended Irina Shostakovich. The same year I won the composition contest EST-OVEST 2006 of Turin and my composition TAHRIR was premiered on the 23th november by the Seattle Chamber Players during the contemporary music season of Xenia Ensemble.In march 2007 SKETCHBOOK was broadcasted by the National Italian Radio (RadioRAI) during the weekly program Radio3 Suite.In november 2007 I participated to a composition masterclass in Bari with Toshio Hosokawa and the piece IDEE FIXE was performed during the festival URTICanti 2007.In november 2008 the piece Per Pianoforte was performed in Bari by the pianist Maka Gabisiani during the festival URTICanti 2008. In the same occasion I attended a masterclass with Luis De Pablo.At the moment I'm working for the archive of the Orchestra Nazionale Rai of Turin and Ricordi and RaiTrade Editions.
