NEWS & UPDATES as of 2/3/08
Long Island has lost a great musician and a great friend.
Joe Greco beat cancer and was well on his way to recovery when he suffered a sudden devastating complication which took him from us Saturday, February 2.
Joe was diagnosed with throat cancer in January of 2007 and started radiation and chemotherapy treatments. He was pronounced free and clear of the cancer by June and was on the road to recovery.
Then, in the beginning of December, Joe had complications as a result of the radiation treatments that put him into intensive care. Joe pulled through and once again was working on recovering. He was making incredible progress when, suddenly and unexpectedly, we lost him yesterday, less than a week after GrecoFest 2008.
It is comforting, however, knowing that in the days following GrecoFest, Joe had the opportunity to hear stories, see videos and feel the outpouring of love from friends and family. Even though he and Lynn weren't physically there, we know they felt the energy and love emanating from the totally sold out show at The Brokerage in Bellmore last Sunday. We raised $10,287 from ticket sales, raffles and donations, for which the Greco family is very grateful.
Donations for the Greco family are still being accepted through the link below.
Joe was a great guitarist, friend and family man and he will be sorely missed by many more people than were in attendance last week.
Funeral arrangements are being made for Tuesday, February 5 at O'Shea's Funeral Home, 2515 N. Jerusalem Rd, East Meadow, 11554 from 2-5 and 7-9 and church services will be held at The Parish of St. Raphael, 600 Newbridge Rd, East Meadow on Wednesday at 10am.
Lastly, if anybody has any photos and/or videos from GrecoFest 2008, please contact me so I can put them up on the site for all to see and appreciate. Thanks, once again, for everyone's support, donations and efforts.
