The music presented here was made in the following months of my first visit to Japan in 2007.
They are my interpretation of japanese music, soundscapes and sonic universe. Sound impressions, understandings and memories of a gaikokujin.
A hearing of Japan through foreigner ears, processed by a non-japanese set of symbols and filtered by my personal experiences.
Gagaku, kabuki, noh, zen monks, shinto priests, bells, geishas, matsuri, birds, crickets, Ainu music, Ryukyuan songs, shakuhachi, taiko, koto, shamisen, sanshin, shinobue and tonkori as they sound and mean to me.
----------------------------------------------
This music includes field recordings i did during this trip as well as samples from commercial sound libraries.
My understanding of their attributes led me to separate them into 3 players named Aoyama, Harajuku and Kyoto.
Tracks range between 40 seconds and 2 minutes and were initially meant for TV usage.
Finding like-minded people interested in playing this material live or collaborating in any other way is an open and welcomed possibility.
