About Me

Leppert Guitars specializes in handcrafted acoustic and electric guitars. Each instrument is made by the heart, mind and two hands of Bill Leppert(WHL). Back in 1977, I decided to build an electric guitar in a high school wood shop class. That guitar inspired me to look deeper to the embodiment of the instrument and was sold before it was actually finished to a music store in Dallas, Texas. And the beckoning seed was planted. Throughout my life, I have been involved in repairing, modifying, designing and building guitars. Mostly a self-taught luthier I did receive some formal training in British Columbia, Canada. Prior to that I had the good fortune to be able to consult with noted luthiers Rene Martinez and Don Teeter. My background includes mechanical engineering, non-destructive testing and fluid dynamics in the aircraft, aerospace and motorcycle industries, specifically analyzing stress, strain and failure rates of various materials and components. Having also worked as a machinist, a motorcycle mechanic and performance technician(factory tuner), an aircraft(Tig)welder, an aircraft inspector and welding inspector, construction contractor and a furniture builder I bring a unique set of skills to the luthier trade. My guitars are designed to perform, with an emphasis on tone and playability more than ornamentation. Concerned about the over-harvesting of our forests, I try to buy fair-trade tonewoods that are responsibly and ethically harvested. When possible, I use reclaimed timbers and alternative tonewoods. I also incorporate hand formed metals and occasionally use graphite and carbon fibre when appropriate. Currently working on hand formed TIG welded metal-bodied resonator guitars...more coming soon.Located on the eastern slope of the Cascade Range in downtown Bend Oregon USA, you can purchase your Leppert Guitar through Rich Music Inc. 841 NW Bond St. Suite 8 Bend Oregon 97701 Phone(541)389-0126 Email Rich Music Inc. , or call me (Bill) direct @(541)350-3211 e-mail me for more information.
