From Here, We Run!

About Me

Innocent and impossible not to love too are FROM HERE, WE RUN! If Young Marble Giants or Orange Juice came from Oxford and were brought up on Don Caballero rather than The Velvet Underground they couldn’t have sounded any better than this. Singer Pieteke’s mature voice and unconventional phrasing keeps the math element in check and hints at a band of greatness emerging.
Nightshift June '09
With young bands like From Here, We Run! around, the town’s music future is bright. Stylistically, they’ve been compared elsewhere with math rock, and at their best they are crisp and intricate, but without the dispassionate introversion which the moniker implies. The key is that all the tapping and complexities are treated as features in a smooth, brooding underlying landscape, rather than the be-all-and-end-all, making the music immediately approachable, without compromising its more jagged elements.
"OxfordBands Live Review (Punt 09)"
Even as do-gooding social worker types tell us to give young bands more encouraging reviews, however crap they are, we point them towards the likes of From Here, We Run!, a bunch of teenagers who need no special dispensation, more than capable of bettering their elders with a rinky-dink form of almost gothic math-pop, with a demure disposition and packed with understated crescendos, discreet fuzz and tumbling drums that cascade around the young female singer with a voice filled with detached wonderment.
