About Me

Artist:
"SegWay" is a score written by Gary Boggess. This unique music covers a wide variety of genres... from "heavy-mental" rock to dense orchestral works. It was written for a mutimedia stage production of the same name by choreographer Nicholas Johnson. For SegWay, Boggess weaves a tapestry of themes as if through a metaphysical passageway somewhere between reality and imagination... that is SegWay! The music will be available for "paid" downloads sometime in the coming months. Selections posted on this site will be switched from time to time so that all of the music eventually appears here. Until we figure out the target marketing, we are not officially releasing it. It's a unique collection of music and deserves a proper CD release. Please note that the samples on this site are low-fi MP3's for demo purposes. Feel free to give us feedback about what you hear. :)
Musician:
Gary Boggess, is a musician and keyboardist who has played piano and Hammond Organ since age seven. He later adopted trumpet, string bass, Mellotron, Clavinet, Moog Synths and various samplers. He has been writing music for over 30 years. During the early to mid seventies, he co-formed the progressive rock/jazz/fusion band named, I Don't Care (IDC), who played clubs in Cleveland, Columbus, Chicago, New York City and along the entire east coast. Boggess wrote and/or arranged much of the bands music.
In 1976, IDC was signed to Buddah Records and released an LP with reviews in magazines like Rolling Stone. After playing concerts with major artists like Bruce Springsteen, Larry Coryell and Frank Zappa, Boggess left the band to pursue his own music. Having been inspired by a wide variety of artists from Jimmy Smith to Keith Emerson of ELP, and many others, Boggess assembled a studio to produce electronic music, limiting his compositions to keyboards and synthesizers as did synth-based artists like Wendy Carlos (a life long mentor & eventually friend). His goal, was to produce orchestral music of high quality and forge a career as a freelance music composer.
Composer:
During all of these years, Gary developed his musical skills and has become a seasoned composer who is comfortable in several genres, from Rock, Jazz and dense orchestral music. He has written music for nearly every medium, genre and for major venues that include Las Vegas's Fremont Street Experience to Alithea Dance company's 2006 performance at the United Nations. He has scored a variety of small films, TV pilots, corporate videos, documentaries and commercial productions. Boggess is a gutsy artist in more ways than one. His musicality is original, organic, timeless, unique, rhythmic, sensitive and emotional. From subtle nuances to powerful dynamic themes, Boggess maintains articulate control over the art forms he owns. He keeps the listener engaged with percussive and polyrhythmic textures that challenge the ear. While balancing such complexities, the listener is provided a surprisingly simple palate of colorful melodies, for which Boggess is most noted. As a true craftsman and artist, he explores a wide array of human emotions that we can readily relate to.
Producer:
Eventually, Boggess' studio grew to the point where it was obvious that his musical experiences and recording skills had enabled him to work as a music producer as well. He is currently producing 7th Floor, Corridor & R&B singer, Kalvin Bishop. As a music producer, his experience as a musician and artist is priceless... bringing endless ideas and skills to the studio tracking and mix sessions. His knowledge about production in the studio is second to none.
Professional:
Boggess has earned the respect and support of top professionals nationwide. He also has the approvals of acedemia, having been composer in residence at Kent State University and currently, a member of the Advisory Board at Tampa's International Academy of Design & Technology (IADT) where he frequently lectures on music production and recording, film scoring, sound effects design and audio post production. If you need a producer, look no further.

Band Members: "I Don't Care" band MySpace
Influences: Jimmy Smith, Igor Stravinsky, Holst, Antonio Carlos Jobim, The Beatles, Traffic, Chicago, Wendy Carlos, Booker T & the MG's, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jan Hammer, Yes, Frank Zappa, Weather Report, Joe Zawinul, Paul Simon, Tomita, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Herbie Handcock, Miles Davis... oh yeah... Miles Davis. So many others... so little space.
Sounds Like: In the mid nineties... a Chicago Tribune reviewer wrote: "Gary Boggess' music sounds like John Williams." But that's not even half of the story. His music is influenced by Jazz and Rock, and has all the qualities of Orchestral, New Age, World, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Wendy Carlos, Joe Zawinul and electric-eclectic. However the fact is, Boggess doesn't really "sound" like anyone. He has a truly original approach to creating music that is best described as, well... Boggess! Perhaps a rapper Boggess produced said it best: "You know what to do... Boggessize it!"
