In 2008 Radio MAC was able to establish itself a little better amongst community. We celebrated a year of broadcasting from Los Angeles to Guatemala and met some amazing women along the way. This is a glimpse of some of the people and the work they do that Radio MAC invited Guatemala to meet over airwaves during our second year:
Cyn da Poet – Salvadorian Born, L.A. based bilingual poet empowered through her unique style of story telling and re-creation of the city and its people. www.myspace.com/cynmusica Kery - Shared an update as a member of the class action lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles for the May 1st, 2007 beatings by L.A.P.D. against peaceful demonstrators, including, elders, womyn, and children. Lei Lani Montez - Recounting the factors that lead to HIV/AIDS amongst the immigrant community. www.thewalllasmemorias.org Gabriela Network members supporting womyn through the first Intn'l Womyn's Day march in Los Angeles since 1994. www.gabnet.org Bringing the Circle Together is a monthly film screening of Native American films. In November of 2007, two womyn met and decided that it would be a wonderful idea to unite stories of immigrant womyn in Los Angeles with stories of importance to the Womyn's Movement in Guatemala, Central America.
What began as an idea materialized and the host of VOCES DE MUJERES, a Guatemala Based Radio Program allowed MUJERES ABRIENDO CAMINOS to introduce themselves via airwaves in February of 2007 in Guatemala City.
During the year 2007, MAC interviewed and retold the stories of:
Academia Semillas del Pueblo, a charter school fighting to continue serving children of immigrant parents by teaching them global languages, mayan mathematics, tai-chi, and native culture. www.dignidad.org Two young womyn who helped organize and participate in a state-wide, student led hunger strike in the name of immigrant rights. www.chirla.org/fast Film writer and director, Diana Romera, whose short film, Ninas Quebradas, tells the story of a young girl kidnapped and sold into sex slavery. www.myspace.com/ninaquebrada Womyn captured by the documentary film Made in L.A. Our guests connected to womyn in Guate by discussing maquila conditions, as well as stories of strength and transformation. www.madeinla.com "Walk a Mile in Her Shoe's" - An annual mile long march since 2001 by men walking in high heels, united as allies, protesting rape and violence against womyn. www.valleytraumacenter.org

En Noviembre de 2007, dos mujeres se conocieron y tuvieron una gran idea de unir las historias de mujeres immigrante en Los Angeles con las historias del Movimiento de Mujeres en Guatemala.
La idea fue materializada y VOCES DE MUJERES, un colectivo de mujeres radio productoras y reporteras basades en Guatemala, introdujeron MUJERES ABRIENDO CAMINOS a la cuidad de Guatemala en Febrero de 2007.
