About Me

My little brother once proclaimed "Life is short; live long!" In a San Diego coffeehouse, Jewel was recorded singing, "I'm sensitive, and I'd like to stay that way." Blink-182 used to ask "What's my age again?" And I relate to them all. That said, all things considered I pride myself on my maturity. My aunt claims that I was actually "adultified" at a young age. But I live my life to turn quirks like these into strengths. Besides, by taking care of myself, my family & friends, my general surroundings, and especially my physical environment, I'm able to let go once in a while (though I wish they made more party cups out of easily recyclable 1 or 2 plastics).Above all I believe in ..honesty.. - there is too deception in this world and it's one thing to uncover hidden meanings. Discovering ..something that you've been explicitly told doesn't exist.. or isn't true is ..terribly disheartening...Ah, bits and pieces never seem to make up the whole quite so easily. For now, you can identify me as the oh-so paradoxical control-freak who gets her energy from spontaneity and randomness. (And saving the planet.) Not necessarily alcohol-induced either, mind you.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

people who are humbly intelligent or intelligently humble; friends of friends who obviously have good taste in picking company; environmentalists who do inspire & organize, don't terrorize; people who still prefer handwritten journals to blogs, and CDs to mp3s; anyone who's got this strange orange-cone fetish that I trace back to my high school days; and someone who will tell me the meaning of life, while I unabashedly proceed to go about my days in its contradiction.

My Blog

I;ve got a few miles to run, if you've got a few extra bucks...

http://pages.teamintraining.org/ocie/nikesf09/nwil... Please help me take on my personal goal for 2009....and the pain and anguish brought on by blood cancers. Donate whatever you can to this importa...

Gone with the wind

We've been blessed with some beautiful warm weather these past several days in So Cal, and I'm not the only one taking advantage of it. While running along the city beach trail, I found myself dodging...

08 was the best of times, 08 was the worst of times...

I always loved the number 8 as a child, and as I grew smarter (aka nerdier) I began to appreciate 8 as "infinity" flipped onto its side.  Consequently, I should have predicted I'd make sure that...

Change is upon us

"Change?" Okay, so as a quick disclaimer, SUPRISE!: I'm about to write a brief narrative on the upcoming election - but not with the depth or opinion you'll see in other blogs (not so m...

hey jealousy ...?

This month is barely beginning, but I'm learning more and more that I need to stay strong as ever and stand up for what I want.  I'm talking about the one bedroom condo I'm buying, of course.&nbs...

My watershed moments

Running down at the beach this morning, I had one of those brief feelings of stepping outside of my life and realizing just how good it is. The morning seascape near San Clemente Pier is just so beaut...

When love is defined, it dissolves...

Most ordinary people would say they'd prefer not to run into anyone from their high school (other than close friends) in general, most certainly not their vice principal or, say, guidance counselor. B...

SOS, Niki-Style

It's been an interesting past couple of days. Since Monday is my get-back-to-the grind day, and also a day of, ahem, minimal supervision, I took advantage of my super-productive morning to take care o...

Im older, er, better than that

Less than a week into Year 26, I've come to a revelation that even if experience increases with age, regret only becomes more powerful.  I think it has to do with any and all of the impending dea...

Fog-a-log

Living in coastal southern California, fog is a way of life. Okay, so maybe just a passing reminder that paradise is a state of mind and not a perpetual, well, state.  Nonetheless, I always appre...
