Established in the summer of 1998 and based out of Palisades Park and Fort Lee, New Jersey, 9 Leaves has been compared to such groups as Linkin Park, The Roots and Outkast. In actuality, this comparison does not do justice in conveying the unique sound of this group. It is melodic, orchestral hip-hop / rock with originally composed music. The meaning behind the name in itself shows the bands devotion to the hip-hop culture. The 9 stands for the 4 elements of hip-hop (Break Dancing, DJing, Graffiti and Rapping) combined with the 5 senses of the human body, creating the ultimate hip-hop living experience. The leaves symbolize their connection and the belief that they all grow and fall together.
The group is composed of five lyricists and a producer. For performances, they add a four piece band and back up vocalists, creating an impressive ensemble on stage. Each lyricist has a style all unto themselves. ISAAC, the force behind the outrageous lyrics, suspenseful storytelling and wild antics, bringing raw skills to the 9Leaves equation. ARONIC, the messenger delivering conscious lyrics and stating his views on life through dynamic, poetic flows. STANG, brings pure heart and power to the mic, able to spit amazing flows on any topic with shocking versatility. PHENETIX, possesses a style of pure mayhem bringing a barrage of metaphors and lyrical complexity. And last but not least, the cornerstone element to the 9Leaves formula is ZACK HEMSEY, the composer behind the music that distinguishes their signature musical production.
