About Me
For all the Hip Hop fans out there that have no clue as to who this producing duo is, Let's just say they are the Reggaeton version to super Hip Hop producers the Neptunes. Reggaeton fans know them as Luny Tunes. If you have heard a Reggaeton song that you like, and the beat is very addictive, chances are Luny Tunes probably produced it. Not to take any credit away from other Reggaeton producers such as Eliel, or other Reggaeton artists that do produce, but Luny Tunes by far have the most notoriety. Their latest CD compilation of different Reggaeton artists called Mas Flow 2, is RIAA Latin certified at 200,000 units (Platino/Platinum), and is in the top 5 category for Latin albums at number 4.The two young men were born in the Dominican Republic. Francisco Saldaña (Luny) born in Romana, and VÃctor Goatherd (Tunes) born in Cibao. They're in their early 20's, and both obviously share an immense passion for music. Even before Luny Tunes were producers, the two were heavily influenced by Hip Hop, Salsa, Merengue, R&B and Batchata. They both used to experiment with keyboards and other musical instruments before they met one another at Harvard university.Contrary to what you are probably thinking, Luny and Tunes were not attending Harvard to get their degree. They both just graduated High School and wanted to take some time off to make a little extra money, So they decided to work in the kitchen of the famous university. Luny was the cook, and Tunes worked as the person who set the dishes, utensils, and everything else besides touching the food. After working for five months and hanging out in clubs, the two realized that they shared similar feelings towards music, specifically Urban Latin music. Unfortunately Reggaeton was not as big as it is now back then, so the two wondered how they could get involved in the music genre. Destiny then took it's course, Luny and Tunes received an invite from a well known DJ in Puerto Rico by the name of Noriega. The two young men were extremely excited at their opportunity, but friends and some family members thought they were crazy if they accepted the offer."Everyone was skeptical and saying that we had a secure job here in the U.S., and we had no business going to an island where we knew nobody." Come to think of it, Luny and Tunes were a little Looney for taking that chance. Reggaeton was coming up, but had no solid fan base or promotional vendors to expose it's talent to others outside of Latin countries. Sometimes though, you have to take that first step and they did. After meeting up with DJ Noriega, they were officially dubbed Luny Tunes, and the two lived together in a cramped apartment and struggled to make ends meet. Later they were introduced to DJ Nelson, and that's when things really started to look good for the Dominican producers. At first DJ Nelson did not think the two could make it, but after giving them a shot to produce for Ivy Queen, and Baby Rasta, they knew they had something special in Luny Tunes. After the success with the productions from those projects, Luny Tunes was told that they would get the opportunity to produce for Nicky Jam, and Hector & Tito. To this day the producing duo remembers the excitement that they felt when they heard they would get to work with Hector & Tito. "That's when we knew that we were going to be big." Hector & Tito at the time were well known throughout Reggaeton music, and to work with them seamed to be a dream come true for Luny Tunes. Now Luny Tunes are so sought after, that Dance Hall Reggae, Hip Hop and R&B acts, and even pop music entertainers are calling to work with them. Tunes says that the world is not ready for what they are planning to do. A fusion of Hip Hop, R&B, Reggaeton, and all other urban music genres is what you can look out for from these young Latinos. If you liked the last two Mas Flow CD's, wait until you hear the third one. This is just the beginning.
