The Aurora Music Project...........

A Social enterprise within Derbyshire

The AURORA MUSIC PROJECT is a voluntary organisation in Killamarsh. Many of the organisation's ideas are based upon experience gained in the recording and music business over a period of 25 years. Combining this with ideas from the younger people of Killamarsh, Aurora will be able to deliver music skills in a way that would appeal to our modern culture. Areas such as multi-track recording, studio mixing, live sound production and band development skills will be taught to members of the community. Particular interest would be given to the young people and the socially and physically disadvantaged people, of which many would like the opportunity to play an instrument or record a CD in a professional environment.
Aurora Music Project have secured grant funding from through the Derbyshire Community Foundation from Bridging The Gap and Awards for All.

Premises are being sought and the society would hope to be settled in a building by the end of 2008. The studio, which is the core of the project, will develop at the premises and should help to generate employment opportunities in the future. The premises will also support other community groups and will offer facilities such as a performance area with stage, meeting rooms, refreshments etc.
The project has plans to develop it's own record label and community radio station to run in line with the musical and performing talents of the community. Another idea that is aimed at children down to the age of six is the delivery of musical instrument workshops, where young children can go along and bang some drums or strum a guitar.
Aurora Music was one of the voluntary groups involved with the Killamarsh Summer Festival in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and has been recognised as fulfilling some of the needs highlighted within the Killamarsh Action Plan.

Brian often comments; “we listen to what the younger members want, not what we think they want, let's face it; it's not exactly rocket science, just plain communication!”
Currently, the Aurora Music Project are running music workshops and performers days in Killamarsh.
The Aurora Music Project are very interested in people who could become committee members or voluntary helpers to carry out the society's aims and objectives. The project would kindly accept donations of any musical instruments that can be used for the purpose of teaching at the music workshops.
