CEMPOALLI~(o.g 20 20)============>
"20 20" (Cempoalli) is a Native Chicano, m.c, singer, songwriter, producer, poet, painter, defender and MOST IMPORTANTLY a worker OF THE PEOPLE. He has been involved with this way of life and style of hip-hop since the late 80's; and has grown to love and embrace Reggae "riddums" since the late 90's. Tagging and piecing on walls and grafitti(piecing)yards was where the name 20 20 first appeared during the mid 90's, which would later become his trademark and stage name.
In the late 90's, 20 20 began to expand his vision and experimented with reggae singing over hip-hop choruses. He developed this fresh idea with many musicians who would bring these melodies and diddies to life. With time spent in the studio and playing out, this idea began to evolve into what would become 20 20's own style. While many were doing r&b over hip-hop hooks, 20 20 was dropping reggae rebel lyrics over hip-hop beats.
Cempoalli (20 20) is best known for the lead front-man of Tha Masses, a band of different members from all over the country, that collectively shared different styles and ideas of music from the world(fusion world raw live hip-hop). He also flourished from his graffiti pieces into a painter of many styles by making conscious artworks that express human struggles. By his expressions to make a difference he has dedicated his time prominently as a defender for human rights and self defense.
With a release of his new album and many more to come, the future is in good hands with 20 20, because of his persistence, honesty and intelligence to keep himself rooted in today and tomorrow struggles. With his charisma on stage and off the stage, he has captured the grassroots movements respect and is inspiring a mainstream audience that has been misinformed to seek the truth in this reality.
The message in his music and away from his music is based on collective thinking, on community building and unity. He knows that by working with what people can agree on and not what we disagree on, we can begin to grow mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Cempoalli (20’s) message is the good news of Turtle island (western hemisphere continent), Mother Earth and the Great Mystery.
Cempoalli also continues to expand in art by raising the consciousness. He found his artwork to be another way to direct attention to the injustices, corruption and grassroots struggles to a nation mislead and misinformed. He knows that we must use our gifts and talents to bring about a new consciousness that will clearly coherently have an evolutionary impact for our future generations. His paintings focused on the theme of human suffering and human advancement. The influences and teachings from indigenous way of life, led him to develop his philosophical-- international style; to acquire the right tools to raise awareness through his work. Cempoalli paintings included Realism, Symbolism, and Surrealism. He presents images of the past and present oppressions, and paints the stories of the everyday daily struggles.
He is a humble human being that writes liberating excellent music from the heart. This music will make you dance, feel good, rise up with endurance, inform you with the real matters on yesterday, tomorrow and today. These songs inspire, to take the action, to bring unity and awareness to Non-Natives, Natives, "Raza" and all peoples from the sacred hoop, which is every one, red, black, white, and yellow. Throughout his experience, the talent in his music have chronicled Chicana/o "herstory" and inspired his people. He carries the vision of Self-Determination for his Chicana/o people to re-establish themselves as a sovereign people with autonomous communities.Cempoalli (20 20) knows, ONE needs to determine his/her destiny, by doing that, we are thinking, questioning, we are exciting our genetic memory and by doing that; we will remember that harmony, that is needed to embrace the human spirit of real love and human advancement in this spiritual reality.
