In the year of 2002 Mark Santos decided he was going to start an intimate relationship with a life long partner, she was called music. He soon learned fast that Music had many long time affairs but he was ready to start something new. He soon formed a band called Attrocity, which in it's run played significant shows including a set played in the El Rey Theater of Los Angeles. The band brought catchy melodies and poingiant lyrics together with a mastermind in their rythm section....his name, Kyle Wendel-Smith. Unfortunatley Attrocity could not hold on throught the test of times and disbanded in Spring of 2006. This came as a shock as the band recorded their first record "A Rocking Adventure" with producer/drummer of the Good Cheer, Aaron Burch. But determined Santos did not stop writing music, he was hooked. He also started to notice a change in the world of music, everything becoming unreal... he wanted to make something straight from the heart from his own life experiences. He again teamed up with Aaron Burch and recorded the originally intended acoustic project but ultimately a major rock record called the Hours After Her, with powerful rock ballads including "Miss Tuesday", and the upbeat anthem of "Going." On the recording Santos as a solo artist was accompanied by Burch on drums. He soon realized to bring his songs on stage he would need to have a live band, and Kyle Wendel-Smith immediately took interest and the two worked together again. At this point is when Santos decided whatever he does in music, Wendel-Smith would provide his beats. The duo played shows with two friends that accompanied them on Bass and Guitar. They played shows for a music company called Emergenza, letting them have the opportunity to play at the Whisky a GO-GO and they aslo booked a show at the coveted Roxy Theater. But after their friends went their separtate ways, Santos and Wendel-Smith decided to take a small break from playing shows too focus on school. At this Time Santos had some even bigger plans, writing a full new set of songs that test his full capablilities as a musician. He knew though that he wanted to start a band again, a full out band, and not just tour or play shows under his own name. He then hooked up with his good Friend Alec Henken, which originally started playing bass, took interest in playing guitar instead. The two quickly saw that they worked well together and started talking about certain concepts, especially since they have been in a cover band named "Toto the Hero" they wanted to take things to a whole new level. They knew their rythm section would be amazing because of Wendel-Smith but a big void was missing from the section, a bass player. With the departure of bassist Andrew Naberhaus, there was a space missing..ENTER Ben Scruggs. After many attempts of recruiting bass players, Santos and Henken thought they found a good candidate, and then, all of a sudden Santos walked in his fall Chemistry class in 2007 and saw a familiar face in Ben Scruggs. Santos had known Scruggs in High School because of choir but never formally made small talk until this chemistry class. Soon enough they each discovered their love and passion for music, and Ben just happened to be a bass player. He soon replaced Santos and Henken's other top choices and was recruited. With Henken away at Santa Barbara, and Wendel-Smith busy with his prior work schedule at pizza hut, Santos and Scruggs started to formulate "Jam Band Wednesdays" Wednesday is the day the two had their Chemistry Lab, afterwards they wood go to BEV MO buy some Root Beer, and Jam in Santos Third car garage with their good friend and talented musician Ryan Hunniwell. After a few jam Sessions and a lot of root beer, Jam Band Wednesdays grew in force and size, and the party involved decided to attempt and soundproof, the garage. A lot of carpet, free stuff, and Root Beer got these companions through and the room was formed. As winter break approached the room was finished added with the finishing touch of two flourescent lights that Scruggs mistakenly read "Lithonia Lightning" instead of lighting which was the real latter word. The phrase stuck with everyone and Lithonia Lightning was born. As soon as Break started, Santos, Henken, Scruggs and Wendel-Smith started to work on some serious Rock as the translation for Lith.. City of Rock, and as Henken puts it "Lightning is just badass" Currently the foursome is working in their Carpet room for a planned house show at Santos' 20th Birthday Party. But its clear that this, is only the beginning...
