About Me
E.T.A little background info, ET a.k.a Evan Toutz is 32 and originally from L.A. He moved to Chicago In 82' and had lived there up until 2000.One day back in 94' a friend of his invited him to a party. It was a warehouse party in the industrial district of downtown chi.He had always been drawn to instrumental music, turntables, and vinyl since he was a child. So after the first night at the Warehouse he knew what he was meant to do.Over the next few months he was attending shows on a regular basis. He started working with promoters video taping there events for them. This included editing, mixing down audio and duplicating copies for the promoters he worked with. One show he video taped was for Roy Buck(ATP Chicago). Roy was orking with a crew consisting of Delta 9, Tron, Dan EFEX, Steve Hitchell, and Nate.
That crew was known as A.T.P. was a hard techno influenced promotional company. After he taped the first show for them, he started promoting and organizing shows with them. This included organizing and distributing flyers, setting up venues, picking up d.j.'s etc...A.T.P. Helped to build careers for a lot of d.j.'s. Well known for it's "Dee-Day" parties every Halloween. They also did parties in conjunction with "Catalyst" records, a.k.a. Terry Mullan, and with "Majesty" a.k.a. Mike Dearborn. It was a tight network enabling A.T.P. To have contacts with some of the larger european d.j.'s at that time.He worked with the group til the end of 97', at that time the scene was changing. It was becoming a commercial drug infested money maker and the history of the scene as well as all of its art forms began to fade. The art form of d.j.'ing was becoming lost, people weren't at the shows to see the d.j.'s, they were there to get there fix and the respect had been lost.He started d.j.'ing in 95' when a his friend who had taken him to his first showed him art of mixing. He didn't start playing out til march of 96', A.T.P. had done a show with Terry Mullan called "Stomp", it was an old antiques warehouse. Formerly the first venue for the first "Dee-Day" party. They didn't have an opening d.j. So Terry let him open. He wasn't that great, nervous as hell playing on a 75,000 watts of sound, but sometimes you have to get tossed into the fire to get a handle on things. The line up that night was sick!!! Hyperactive, Woody McBride, Barada live, Ian Pooley, The Stickmen, John Aquaviva and of course, Terry Mullan. After that he bounced all over the mid west plating hard techno, acid techno, and prog. trance from 96' until about 99'.Around 99' he thought is was time to find a new sound, being burnt out on prog! It became to sleepy. He was then introduced "Nu Breaks" and it opened a whole new window for him. Plus I got back to my old roots of straight up "Techno". His mixing style is like no one else in the industry, its a combo if mixing 4x4 with breaks.
As long as it's well produced and well mastered he will mix with it... no matter what style it is.You can have the best tracks in the world, but if you can't program, build progression or beat match then your just another wanna "b" d.j. out there. He is currently working on a new mix c.d. for 2008 called dETox, it is a project long over do and there is a lot of anticipation for its release.Keep your ears peeled to the speakers...
