With a cornfield and the proverbial sleepless neighbor as their first audience, twin brothers David and Darren Negvesky formed the all-original rock band ANTIOCH when they were twelve years old in Freeville, New York. Since then, both the audience and the band have grown, but ANTIOCH has always been about resolute passion and family.
It wasn’t long before the singer/pianist and drummer added friend Mark Voionmaa to the mix. Mark was quickly dubbed “the third brother†by audiences. The threesome upgraded rehearsals from a mudroom to an unheated barn, where fingerless gloves and coats kept the rock churning in winter. Strong convictions, not comfort, were ANTIOCH’s objective as David and Darren turned down full scholarships to Ithaca College to pursue their passion.
The band drove south and set up their gear near David and Darren’s childhood town in Northeast Pennsylvania. They laughed, cried, fought and played their way throughout the Northeast and overseas. They recorded independent cd’s and performed for everyone who would listen.
Three became four in the band with the addition of guitarist Maura Negvesky. Her taut rhythms and tenacity added another layer of authenticity. The band dug deep for a dynamic sound with their newest set. They kicked off 2008 with a demo featuring songs from their hard-hitting collection.
With their current lineup, ANTIOCH is rocking harder than ever – uncompromising and determined to open new doors and pour out everything they have. Fans are nodding their heads to their compelling spirit and originality. ANTIOCH’S passion is not something they do – it’s who they are, and they’re making audiences believers as well.
