About Me
Contemporary Artist with Gospel emphasis. (Gospel, Opera, Rock, R & B, Spanish)"Her vocal doubles, sometimes, cause flanging effects and phasing cancellation". .During the years of her labor, hard work, and hoops (tossed paper) to the trash can, with bouts of depression centered around marriages/divorces/raising children and her brother's death (by murder), Donna was to finally birth a few compositions. . . . . .Creativity is her backbone; this makes her writing possible. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .It all began in San Francisco, CA, where a child was born to musical parents on September 19, 1967. God bestowed that same gift upon that little girl. Her dad sang with an accapella group for several years in the San Francisco Bay Area. Summer vacations with him were three-forths horrible and one quarter exciting. The exciting part was listening to the different singers in his group. But only one had her undivided attention. Carl. He would sing in falsetto all the time and would find and sing notes she never knew existed. One night, her dad had her and her sister learn a song. He was pushing buttons on a reel to reel machine as he told them to sing. He played it back. Donna was amazed. That was the beginning of her mimmicking/copycat/programming process that would, later in life, haunt her during her adlib sessions in the studio. On the other hand, Donna found her and her siblings in the opera house at her mother's rehearsals in the Bay Area. After several moves and settling in Stockton, CA, her mother achieved an AA of Music degree and performed in Europe as well as the U. S. No wonder Donna plans to do what has been her biggest dream ever. SING!! . . . . . . . . . . .Donna has been singing since age 5, but began songwriting at the age of 12 . [Up to that age, her parents, aunts and uncles would play all of the latest songs that released along with all of the latest dances. Singing and Donna became best friends. Unfortunately, dancing has a grudge against Donna. Maybe Dancing is jealous of Singing. Hopefully they will decide to become friends]. Her vocalizing interest grew as the teenage years approached. Therefore, with much thought, she began preparing for a singing career. In high school, this musical active student did numerous rewarding performances. From singing a solo (Just Once by James Ingram) and duet with Demetrius Henderson (My Endless Love by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross) at one of the honor roll assemblies to singing the school anthem in the quartet ensemble on her graduation day. She has received medals, and was awarded the 1985 Best Singing Voice Award (her last year of high school). In 1993, Donna began pursuing a music recording degree (which would take 15 years to achieve due to work, family, and church time). She has appeared on a local cable television station singing at a GospelFest (with re-run showings) in the mid 90s. She attended the 1995 Gospel Music Workshop of America Convention in Los Angeles, CA. She has sung at numerous weddings, gospel musicals, and funerals. During her short lived Sacramento, CA residency, Donna had the privilege of being part of the Huie D. Lovelady and Unity Community Choir in North Highlands, CA in 1998. Timothy Christian Riley and Ivan Johnson were among the accompanying musicians. The year prior, Donna taught Spanish at Brookside Christian High School and participated in the Chapel Services with song when asked. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Taking time off from singing for some time and while on public assistance, Donna completed the Television Production Certificate Program at Cosumnes River College in 2005. . . . . . . . . . .
