"Made Out of Babies" headlines grrrl-powered party featuring live music, DJs, burlesque
BROOKLYN, NY- NOVEMBER 13, 2009- Brooklyn based femme-fest Girlz in the Hood comes to Greenpoint, Thursday November 20th 8 pm at Europa. The night will feature live music from Made Out of Babies, Shiragirl, Swear on your Life, Les Sans Culottes, and Hype of the States; burlesque by Burning Angel star Jessie Lee; and dancing tunes by DJs Erica Dagley (Angels and Kings Trainwreck Tuesdays) and Baya Voce (Real World: Brooklyn cast). Tre of Indierotica.com will be taking pictures and PBR will be providing drink specials, featuring $1 cans from 8-10pm.
Made Out of Babies is an emerging experimental rock-metal band from Brooklyn, fronted by "metal's most riveting front woman" Julie Christmas. All-girl band Shiragirl fuses styles from punk-rock to hip-hop, best known for crashing the Warped Tour. Swear on your life is a hard rock-metal powerhouse fronted by biracial riot grrrl Militia. Les Sans Culottes take-no-prisoners live shows have "Earned a reputation for excessively fabulous performances and intoxicatingly catchy pop music in the mold of Serge Gainsbourg and Jacques Dutronc." (NY Daily News) Electric-pop quintet Hype of the States melds melodies with keys, guitar, bass, and driving rock beats.
Girlz in the Hood was created by Shiragirl, the force behind the Warped Tour's Shiragirl Stage (which hosted female-fronted bands from Paramore to Joan Jett). The event features the hottest emerging female-fronted bands and DJs in the best venues all over Brooklyn. G-Hood has graced Southpaw, Supreme Trading, and Sputnik, featuring many female artists and Djs including Theo and the Skyscapers, Queen V, God-des and She, and DJ Storm. In March, the event raised money for women's cancer in collaboration with GO! Magazine. Last month Girlz in the Hood teamed up with Girls Rock Girls Rule for a showstopping CMJ performance.
This month, Girlz in the Hood joins JudyPickless666 to create its most diverse lineup yet. With the Djs spinning an after-party on Europa's enormous dance floor, keeping the party going even after the performances wrap, November 20 is sure to be a raucous night to remember.
