WAKE EP:
OUT NOW!Yesterday I caught the biggest fish I have ever caught. It all started when I decided to paddle-out offshore; I figured that's where all the big guys would be anyway. After sitting quietly in the sun, attempting to read Descartes' "Discourse on Method" (which is probably the worst choice of book you could attempt to read while fishing), I moved my arm swiftly across my body to close Descartes after a few failed attempts of comprehension. As I was doing so the sleeve of my shirt caught the edge of the book, sending it starboard; towards the depths of the sea. I quickly leaned to catch it, as the book had been insightful enough to be worth catching. I made the save perfectly, but in doing so, I noticed a rather large bass swimming underneath the shade of my small boat. My lure, half an inch of an earth worm, had been previously sitting at the bottom of the lake, far out of sight. But I quickly reeled in, only to re-cast my lure one foot under the surface, in plain view, by sunlight bending into the water. I watched the fish slowly swim around the worm twice, then lurch toward it. Instinctually, I raised the fishing pole causing the hook to sink right into the monster's jaw. As I reeled, crisp pellets of water flew into the air only to magnify the glory that was bass. He flew in slow motion, across my visual field, and directly into the side of the boat. He looked me in the eye, as to say "Please return me to the sea; you've had your fun." His eyes shimmered like those of a young child who has just finished the end of "Old Yeller". I considered what it was like to be a fish, and how I would like it if a fisherman returned me to my home, in the sea.
