We are located at 3810 N. PECOS ST. DENVER, CO 80211 The word Tonalli is an indigenous Nahuatl term meaning soul, energy, and new day. We find that this is a perfect name for our store because we hope to bring new energy to the Denver/Metro-area. As our friends from Horchata Design have said, "Pop culture is all around us and we are not against pop culture. Pop Culture is of the people and it is the industry we are attempting to be involved with. However, it seems these days that popular culture is not so much of the people anymore but has been taken over by giant corporations like Tommy Hilfiger, Abercrombie, Walmart, Target, Gap, Banana Republic. The consequence is then that of the corporate retail shops usurping the popular culture in the proliferation of suck and complacency. Suck and complacency is now all around us. Because these retail companies have vast amounts of money, we are subjected to their bastardized ideas and notions of popular culture everywhere we go and everywhere we turn. These corporate retail giants steal the ideas of fashion, culture, language and music and filter all the reality and goodness out of them then feed them to the masses and from what we have seen, we are buying into it. In an effort to combat the proliferation of suck, complacency, and conspicuous consumption, we attempt to introduce culture and politics to pop culture. We are attempting to turn pop culture cultural and political. Our designs are meant to empower. Our goal is to construct creative fashion designs that educate, inspire, empower and motivate."-Horchata Design Each design is unique and presents various leaders that have been influential in world and American history. Whether it is Frida Kahlo, Rigoberta Menchu or Angela Davis. The images present influential and empowering leaders that have changed the course of history through their tenacity and activism. Our designs also have an indigenous component to it because we cannot forget where we come from and because as Latinos, we must honor our indigenous past
