Gonna go out dancing in the pouring rain

About Me

I moved out of Texas thinking geography was irrelevant, and after 7 years in Michigan, I got incredibly luckily. The stars aligned and allowed me to blissfully move back to the sunshine, managing to keep the job I love at the same time. Sometimes I still pinch myself.

My Interests

Music:

I like it.

Oh... You were expecting to find out WHAT music I like? That's hard. My musical tastes are not cool. You know that type of music you hate? I like it. Mostly because I like it all. I like country. I like pop. I like anything you can dance to. I love that stuff they pump into dance clubs that sounds like the same beat over and over. I like Spanish hip-hop / reggaeton. I like classical. I like oldies. And if I accidentally spend a little too much time listening to the really hard stuff, I end up with an appreciation for it too. What groups? Mostly of the time I don't even know who sings/plays the stuff I like.

Right now: I'm listening to ABBA, Dixie Chicks, and Julietta Venegas.

Movies:

So hard to pick favorites here, but if pressed, I'd probably say American Beauty and Memento.

Television:

I'm a tv junkie. Here, too, my tastes will make some ill. I have definite favorites at all times.

Right now: Heroes, Lost, and Big Brother (whenever it returns), and, um, Veronica Mars. (Yes, I hear you groaning.)

Books:

I love to read, as long as it's not a classic.

Right now: I just found the intro to personal finance book every person should read: The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom by Suze Orman.

Heroes:

Anyone willing to say what they think, and who believes everyone else should have that right too.

Happiness

I'm happy.  Really, truly, happy.  I love my life, and I love my job.  I've spent the last few decades trying to make sure I was the person I really was and not who anyone else wanted m...

Dad

My dad was born with a genetic condition that meant his kidneys would someday fail.  My sister and I were vaguely aware of this growing up, but parents tend to shelter their children, so I think ...

Working to turn the other cheek this week

For so many big decisions, the question Who will this hurt? is a complicated one.  When I build a good test for hiring employees, the company has a stronger workforce, and more high-quality emp...

The best day in church

I don't go to church usually (See that word 'agnostic' next to religion?), so the 'best' may not carry much weight.  But it was a very good day.  I went to church with my mom.  Mom's ch...

Wiped

Back from Spanish class.  Learning Spanish plays to all my weaknesses: verbal skills, memorization, composing on the spot.  Arg.  I HATE being bad at stuff.  This stuff kicks my bu...

Basics

I think you can understand me best if you start with the knowledge that I got married in blue jeans and a t-shirt. I like cheesecake, so we had that instead of a wedding cake. I told guests to come i...
