"I SHALL TAKE MY VOICE WHEREVER THERE ARE THOSE WHO WANT TO HEAR THE MELODY OF FREEDOM OR THE WORDS THAT MIGHT INSPIRE HOPE AND COURAGE IN THE FACE OF FEAR. MY WEAPONS ARE PEACEFUL, FOR IT IS ONLY BY PEACE THAT PEACE CAN BE ATTAINED. THE SONG OF FREEDOM MUST PREVAIL." Paul Robeson

How amazingly beautiful is this picture of my parents??
****As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to
ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably
more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so
remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best
friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry
because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you
love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've
never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute
of happiness you'll never get back. Don't be afraid that your life will end,
be afraid that it will never begin****.

**ONE MORE POEM ADDED TO THE COLLECTION
PROMISE... Light illuminates a picture. Of the future. Of the past. As hope carefully stalks a heart which has long been without. Memories of an unfulfilled future, scatter like moths on a lazy summer afternoon. And are replaced...by the perfect past yet to come.Perfection... Movin to the music of the wind,
Dancin on the surface of the sun,
Rockin to the beat of that different drum.Lovin the ones that hurt you,
Hurtin the ones you love.Pickin up the slack.Dishin out the difference.Stallin till tomorrow.Hopin truth comes back in style.Cryin out for tolerance,
Strivin for oneness,
Continuin the process,
Fightin for progress.Where do you stand.
Perseverance... A lone tree in a barren desert, an oasis for the weary traveler. Perfect in it's own way. Statuesque amongst gravel. Fed by the skies above and the earth below. Pruned by the winds. Shaped by the elements. Fiercely independent, Unbreakably strong. Yet the pain of loneliness is carried on the quiet breeze.....Cry me a river. And from those tears may a forest grow.
Power... The mirror reflects only half truths. Eyes that search for the negative, rarely discovering the beauty in the faults. Religiously apologizing for the we, we think we are; for the beautiful faults. Subversively condemning the qualities uniquely ours. Who are we to say there is nothing there. Kind souls, gentle spirits....need to be shared, need to be praised. Who are we to keep that from others. Strength is a virtue all possess but few portray. Be heard. Be seen. Use the power in you to change all that hurts the heart. Shrinking violets never explore the boundaries that were meant to be expanded.
Progress.. Peace...the flicker of the candle, the smile of a stranger, a kiss from my 4 legged best friend. Peace...acceptance of the light in me, acceptance of my darkness, acknowledgment of the pain. Peace...living in the silence, ingesting the stillness, enveloped in the warmth of the generations. Peace.
Laurette Taylor (1884-1946), not known by many anymore but considered one of the most influential stage actresses of all time, was revered by Broadway legends such as Uta Hagan, Martin Landau, and Maureen Stapleton for her dramatic performance in the original stage version of The Glass Menagerie in 1945.
Marlon Brando (1924-2004) and Jessica Tandy (1909-1994) in the original stage version of Streetcar Named Desire.
Paul Robeson (1898-1976) was the very definition of a Renaissance man. An actor (1st black actor to play Othello onstage with a white cast), athlete (inducted into the National College Football Hall of Fame), lawyer (graduated from Columbia University School of Law), are just to name a few on his long list of accomplishments. He was also able to speak and write in over 20 languages.
Paul Robeson and Uta Hagen (1919-2004) in Othello.
Bob Fosse (1927-1987), arguably one of the most innovative choreographers of our time. A visionary with a delectable style all his own.
Gwen Verdon (1925-2000), Bob Fosse's wife and muse. Her command of his style and manipulation of her body was truly amazing. I got to work with this legend just a few months before her death.
