His smooth R&B style, entwined with his rough almost “gangsta†persona, is the epitome not only of “Southern Playa†himself, but that of his music as well. As the son of a pastor, “Southern Player†was born and raised in the small town of Lufkin Texas, where he began singing at the age of five at his father’s church. It is there where he honed his singing skills and began learning to play harmonica, guitar and piano. His passion and aptitude for music quickly evolved, and by age twelve was already writing songs and learning how to arrange vocals and recorded his first demo. Living in a small town had its disadvantages when trying to pursue a music career. However, when his father decided to move to L.A. to establish a new church, it is then that he saw the opportunity to pursue a music career in a realistic light. Since arriving in L.A. “Southern Player†has been consistently in pursuit of ‘making it happen’. In light of his past accomplishments, which include winning the “Best of The West†talent contest hosted by Budweiser, making the semifinals on the TV show “The Cut†sponsored by MTV, writing and performing vocals on Too Short’s album, “Married To The Gameâ€, as well as writing and performing, “Top Down†featuring, “Bun B†of UGK and “Sons Of Funk†currently available on itunes. “Southern Player†is not only an artist, but also an endowed songwriter, producer and musician. With his assiduous work ethic and his ability to add his own unique sound to contemporary music, Southern Player will emerge as one of the industries artistic leaders.
