About Me

Waterlog is comprised of producer/composer G. Gunn & vocalist Reeko Graves. Waterlog's sound and aura is often described as the most progressive, raw, and boundless form of urban music since the days of Funkadelic's Maggot Brain, Wu Tangs Enter the 36th Chambers, and Tricky's Maxinquaye. The duo initially met in D.C. in '99 after sharing a paralleled history from performing throughout Washington D.C.'s go-go scene in the 90s. Reeko was highly recognized in the streets of DC for his numerous rap appearances with the notorious Backyard Band, led by front man Gingus (Slim Charles from HBOs The Wire). Meanwhile, Gunn was also highly noted for performances with Sudden Death (producer/percussionist/drummer) and guest slots with the equally notorious Junkyard Band. As both moved slowly out the go-go scene, they found themselves rediscovering their affinity for hardcore hip hop, grunge, trip hop, & Psychedelia. It was during this period the two would allow themselves to be completely consumed by endless months of the music of Funkadelic (early years), Scarface, Radiohead, Tupac, The Mars Volta, Brotha Lynch, Brain Jonestown, The Doors, Devin The Dude, Bad Brains, Pink Floyd, Ghostface & Tricky, just to mention a few. Soon Gunn and Reek where compelled to adopt the persona Waterlog, which would grant them the ability to create the least derivative form of music that would pull from all of their musical influences & involvements.
After an insanely tireless year of recording, Brained Of Drugs was created as waterlogs first completed collaboration between the two. While highly respected for its artistic merit by industry tastemakers, fans, & fellow artists, the album has yet to be commercially released. This album is acknowledged as their most experimental piece of work to date, noted for its surrealistic and psychedelic nature. Blowing Trees To Dead music marks the second stage in the development of this unclassified sound, scheduled for a commercial release (to be announced). While only hints of the album have manage to leak from the sessions, industry pioneers are already buzzing of a classic album being compared to the likes of Nas Illmatic, UGKs Riding Dirty, and Outkasts Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik.
The name Waterlog , was inspired during creative brainstorming between the two for a unique name to fit their sound. Reeko mentioned the concept of a person on probation consuming large amounts of water, in an attempt to clean his urine exams, only for it to read as water logged. This name would go on to signify rebellion's attempt at breaking the boundaries/barriers against regurgitated tradition. At this time, Gunn had relocated his studio Erthwermzindert from D.C. to the artist-driven dwellings of Williamsburg Brooklyn where they began to record Cause Lost, Nakedont Change, & Goodnight Special. Reeko received permission from his probation officer to travel back and forth recording the sessions known ironically known as Brained Off Drugs. Before moving to New York, Gunn spent a year or so working as a producer/musician under multi-platinum selling producer/Grammy winner Mahogany (Jay Z, Nas, Dr. Dre, Eve). During this same period he received several session invites from the likes of Damien Desandes (Carl Thomas), DOC (Esthero, Res), Geology (Black Star, Jem). Following these experiences, Nona hendryx (formerly of Labelle) & Bobby Banks awarded him the opportunity to help build the diversely unique record company Rhythmbank Entertainment, in which he would serve as an A & R and a Project Manager for the Sleeper cell Soundtrack. In addition, he recorded a gritty logged single with vocalists Malene Young Lao for the Sleeper Cell Soundtrack. Reeko also had early run-ins with the music industry when asked to deliver vocals for a radio remix by super producer Chucky Thompson (Mary J. Blige, Notorious B.I.G). He also appeared on the song Freestyle on Backyards Hood Related 2 album. Just before solidifying the Waterlog journey, reek fronted an all Black Punk band reminiscent of Bad Brains called Eastman. They continue to take a hybrid of all of their experiences and mash them into an absinthe pool of infinite possibilities known as the logged sound.
