Grade was a Canadian hardcore band born out of Burlington and Oakville, ON groups Incision and Sun Still Burns. Their first release was the Grade/Believe split CD which was released in 1994 on small Canadian label Workshop Records.And Such Is Progress followed in 1997, first released on 12" vinyl only by Capsule Records from Ypsilanti, MI. Matt Jones and Kyle Bishop then released out a follow-up 3 song 7" on their own label Wheatfield Press. Dan Askew from Second Nature Recordings and Sean Bonner from ToyBox Records then co-released a second pressing of And Such is Progress, before Second Nature released the LP and 7" together on CD.The Separate the Magnets EP was released in 1998, earning them critical praise and high profile opening slots with groups such as Jimmy Eat World, Hot Water Music and Fugazi, and interest from several larger indie labels including Revelation, Some, Tommy Boy and Victory Records. In 1999, they signed with Victory Records and released an EP, Triumph and Tragedy. Later that same year they released a full length album, Under the Radar and began to heavily tour the U.S and Europe.In 2000, they released The Embarrassing Beginning, a collection of their older works (Grade/Believe split), as well as rarities. In 2001, original guitarist Greg Taylor left to pursue Jersey full time, and was replaced with Brad Casarin. Chris Danner subsequently left, with Charles Moniz joining for the release of the album Headfirst Straight to Hell, and dates on the Warped Tour, and tours of Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., Canada and Europe.In their final incarnation, only Kyle Bishop remained, backed by members of the group Somehow Hollow.
Grade broke up in 2002 and all members went on to pursue other bands. Brad Casarin, Mike Casarin, and Kent Abbot continued their band 'Somehow Hollow', released an album on Victory Records titled "Busted Wings and Broken Halos" and broke up in 2003.Charles Moniz played with Avril Lavigne for several years as her touring bass player.Kyle Bishop went on to form 'The Black Maria', where he played guitar and sang back-up. Kyle parted ways with 'TBM' in 2004 and they have since broken up.Greg Taylor is currently singing and playing guitar for "Saint Alvia". They have released two albums and an EP on Stomp Records, and have been nominated for two Juno awards in Canada.Matt Jones, Chris Danner, and Brad Casarin played together in the hardcore band "To the Lions" from 2006-2008. They released one album titled "Baptism of Fire" on Goodfellow Records in 2007.
