About Me

Red Word: an atmospheric post-prog rock group, fusing the lessons of 60s/70s era progressive rock, with the emotional excitement of more contemporary influences. The Red Word began in the fevered minds of two young siblings. They rapidly spread it to a close friend and confidant, who soon began to see red. However, their progress met with two vital deficiencies - a singer and drummer. Fortunately, and in trademark uniqueness, this was solved in the form of a Superman: their singing drummer. Contributing his own tastes to the "weird music" of the other three, Red Word's distinctive sound was realised. In late 2005, they recorded their first demo, "A Nearly Epic Demonstration", with local musical afficianado, Graeme Sutherland. Suitably impressed with their sound, he found them a position in his Halloween Rock Night in Conellys. The music of Red Word is marked by the construction of atmospheres and moods, using epic, melancholy guitar work, and haunting vocals. The use of a piano in the place of a rhythm guitar allows them to create cinematic pieces, the like of which are rarely heard, and adds another layer of orchestration. Songs that are rich in feeling also contain the tension between contrasting parts, emotions, and genres. Frequently favouring unorthodox structures, a Red Word song does not take the listner on a journey, but instead takes the listener's surroundings and changes them. Drive Carefully Records .....redword's sound is very striking and like nothing we've ever heard before..... 13th note (18 Jun 2007 )....
