I am a French double bassist based in London since the summer of 2007. I am currently mailny involved in the Magic Tombolinos Project with Alejandro Toledo and friends. This 6 piece band plays powerful oriental gypsy music with a kind of « nu balkan » touch. The energy that this bands develops at playing a roots and emotional music corresponds well to my current musical aspirations.
I am also working with Roxy Rawson who sings and plays with the violin her own peculiar acoustic compositions that stands somewhere between something totally relaxing or absolutely hectic. Better check out her myspace .
In the past I have been playing for a few years with the Swing Deluxe Collective based in Paris. Swing Deluxe blends gypsy eastern european influences and jazz north american classics. I enjoyed playing with both the whole Orchestra and the more intimate Trio configurations of Swing Deluxe. SD is still active in Paris ( www.swing-deluxe.com ), I miss you guys, keep the swing alive !
Before discovering the marvellous double bass, I wandered playing electric bass in funk bands (Doodo recently in Barbes, Saint Marcellin et ses Pots de Rouge back in 97). I also had a lot of fun playing bass in a lounge electronica band in San Francisco in 2001-2002. I guess that these influences are still obvious in my playing despite the years trying to sound swing.
