Obligatory bio of John "Biggie" Bigger:
Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina and began playing bass at the age of 13. I Earned a B.A. in Economics from North Carolina State University in 1992 and an M.S. in Project Management from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
My earliest influences included Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius and various 70s fusion bassists. As time dragged on, I succumbed to the influences of funk, punk, jazz, 60s & 70s R&B & funk, world music and whatever else floated through the annals of my tape/record/CD collection.
Shortly after college, I moved to Colorado, got married, and sought like-minded musicians for mutual exasperation. Having played in a number of improvisational/jam-friendly bands (including Boulder-based Tucker) and having studied jazz bass for many years, I desired an eclectic group of musicians with whom to create original music. Having somehow conned the other members of Ebeneezer into accepting him into the band in January 2004, I could finally rest easily with my newly formed Witness Protection Program identity.
After a 5-year run, Ebeneezer played its final gig in April, 2009. Though I'm doing part-time gigs with Denver-based Miracle Band, I'm also currently searching for a more steady musical situation, either studio, live/touring or both. Feel free to drop me a line if you are interested in playing some music.
Equipment-wise, I play a variety of 4, 5 and 6 string basses as well as an electric upright bass. My main basses include an early 90s Warwick Fortress 5-string with Bartolini pickups and preamp, a Peavey GV graphite-neck 5-string, a 90s Music Man Stingray 4-string, a Japanese-made System Craft fretless 4-string with Bartolini pickups and a RobWave EUB. Amp-wise, I typically play through Gallien-Krueger heads/preamps, but I also frequently occasionally play Trace Elliot gear. Cab-wise, I either play through an Avatar 4-x10, a custom-built 2x12 cab or a combination thereof. I also use various effects, including those made by EBS, Akai, Guyatone, Fulltone and others. You can find me on www.talkbass.com under the user name "Planet Boulder".
The songs on this page include selections by the various projects with which I am involved, such as Ebeneezer, The Miracle Band and collaborations with Ebeneezer keyboardist Ben Rhodes.
