About Me
We are now involved in the planning stages of a large, wood fired kiln to be located in a prominent place in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park.
This MySpace page declares our presence and purpose, and invites fun, fresh dialog from folks near and far.
We invite comments and ask anyone and everyone to submit designs, from the practical to the utterly fantastic. Know that there are certain choices that are fundamental to what we're doing, and all submissions should consider them.
Yes, utilizing the boundless quantities of good wood that we can access in Fairmount Park, the kiln will be wood fired.
Yes, it must be large, as this is to be a social kiln, where all sorts of people with all sorts of levels of dedication to the firing can come together, once a month, on the night of the full moon, and participate.
Yes, it must be figural. Figural? Yes! This kiln is to be a sculpture in and of itself, an object of wonder for all who behold it... an inspiration for those who need a nudge to dare to throw a pot...
Yes, this opens the doors for anyone, from my brother doodling on the back of a napkin to Venturi Scott Brown's whole staff having a drunken, kiln 'design off' between innings at the company picnic... ANYONE may submit a design.
Yes, it may be fanciful, it may be grotesque, but it must ultimately be buildable and functional.
This site will grow, quickly, and friends will help me add all the bells and whistles... the more involved MySpace editing gew gaws and jim cracks......... When we've reached a critical mass, we will begin negotiations with the always delightful Fairmount Park Art Association, and friends at the Fairmount Park Commission.
This process will likely take time, but through the wonder of the internet, this can all happen in the best of the D.I.Y. tradition.
C'mon... git on board!
