About Me

The Evergreen Chapter of the Hip Hop Congress is built from the example of the rapidly expanding international Hip Hop Congress organization. The group's mission statement reads: "Hip Hop Congress is an international grassroots network that educates, empowers and unites individuals. We preserve and evolve Hip Hop by inspiring social action and cultural creativity within the community." We seek to apply this mission in a practical manner to the Evergreen and greater Olympia community. We believe that an organized, united and effective Hip Hop Community will inherently help create more of an organized united and effective whole community in Olympia. To do this, we seek to bring local DJs, MCs, Artists and Dancers together behind the common cause of the Hip Hop Congress along side those who have resources to support these arts and are socially or politically active in the community. In other words, we wish to use Hip Hop as a driving force to make real positive change in our community that can be maintained and built upon in future years. We will use our resources to educate, expand, and empower those active in Hip Hop and Social Improvement. We will provide a vessel that can be used by local artists and activists as a single networking tool, a place to find gigs, a place to improve on skills and tactics, a place to find good information on Hip Hop culture and a path towards social change. In addition, we recognize that our mission statement will frequently cross over with those of other student and community groups, as well as businesses. We are willing to work with any group on any project that overlaps goals with ours. A united community is an effective community - we seek also to unite the student groups and allow them more effectiveness by offering a helping hand when our resources grant that ability. Finally, we also seek to provide access to, solidarity with, support for, and receive help from Hip Hop Congress chapters all across the country, focusing on those in the NW. Let's use Hip Hop to bring us together.
