i'd feel dirty too if i sold my ass on the street

About Me

i'm totally nuts about biology, primarily reptiles... i have a thing for evolutionary bells and whistles... like photosensative scales, heat sensing pits and shit. i mean, evolution is born of necessity... there has to be some limiting factor... how the hell did these traits show up in the first place? more over, how is there consistantly enough pressure on snakes to necessitate the variety of adaptations? in the past few years my focus has been venomous snakes... partially because there are so many different avenues to explore their taxonomy (given the lack of a real fossil record) and partially because it just feels fucking amazing to handle them in the wild! getting one in my hands... well, it makes me feel extremely priveledged to have the opportunity to have such close contact with an organism that so few people will ever touch.... that, and it's the most insane ego trip ever! haha. .... who doesn't like feeling powerful? all that tough shit out of the way, i'm pretty much a total geek... i swear i wasn't on the los altos high science bowl team! (p.s. science bowl runs sort of like a high school sport.... but not at all... hahaha....you compete with other schools in the region answering science trivia questions. there's play offs and championships and everything). anyway, these days i spend most of my free time either doing biology/ecology related business like "herping" (picking around looking for reptiles and amphibians), playing aussie rules for ANU or rock climbing...that's a total lie. haha. i haven't gone for about a year... more like watching dr phil and oprah in the afternoons then bbq-ing or generally cooking dinner and watching the footie with my girl (poor bastard is a melbourne supporter! hahahaha! ...and to top it off, i'm a terrible cook!..hahaha). thursday onwards through the weekend you can usually find me playing around at cube on the weekends... dancing like a spastic as usual :)I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

My Interests

biology (herpetology more specifically), do a bit of study, but what i'm enjoying most at the moment is playing aussie rules footy at ANU. it's fucking fantastic! i've never had more fun playing a sport in my life! good game to watch as well... easy to get good and fired up about :)

I'd like to meet:

anyone i suppose... old friends i haven't heard from in ages... cool people in my neighborhood who i haven't yet discovered, people who reckon an evening of goon drinking and taking the piss out of television characters can rate higher than hitting up the club..... hehe.... i say that now... but where am i thrusday friday saturday?.... not on the couch with a space bag, that's for sure. but, yes, truely. my best nights have definately been mights in hanging out and shooting the shit with a good mate.

Music:

crazy about: bob marley, flogging molly, pink floyd, sublime, the cure, the smiths, atmosphere, deltron, david bowie, bob dylan, the pixies, led zeppelin, elvis, gypsy kings, alanis morrissette, the beatles (of course), porcupine tree, the stones, doobie brothers, elton john, jonny cash, radiohead, weezer, battlefield band, paul simon, peter gabriel, garth brooks, the supremes, aretha franklin, howlin' wolf.... and i love musicals. i know they're cheesey and sappy, but that's why they're great.

Movies:

anything directed by david lynch, moulin rouge, crouching tiger hidden dragon, american beauty, natural born killers, run lola run. amilie, before sunrise, before sunset, short bus, i am a sex addict.

Television:

family guy, futurama, south park, star trek (all series... voyeger only in the first couple seasons... the last one was a bit crap... but i always had a little crush on t'pol... i might be able to count on one hand the people who got that last bit...haha) csi, the l word, nip/tuck, house, battlestar galactica, and fucking twilight zone! ... hehe, not that i ever see these shows anymore... i'll just have to catch up on them next time i'm back in california visiting my family.

Books:

the queen's gambit, the handmaid's tale (margaret atwood in general), xenocide (really anything by orson scott card), perfume, the moral animal....read it! it's fuckin great! it's all about evolutionary causation for human behavioral patterns and the functional basis for the way we interact..... anyway......song master (orson scott card) was fucking terrific. so strange dude... and wyrms! chuck palahniuk is also a favorite of mine... just finished diary, it's good, but i'd recommend survivor over it any day.

Heroes:

my grandpa. he's a decorated war hero with two purple hearts from his service in infantry in iwojimad. some of the storys he's told me are just unbelievably raw you wouldn't believe it. what really gets me though about my grandpa bud though is that he's always happy. the fucker sings constantly... that is when he's not devising strange new contraptions to scare the cats away from his yard.... hahaha.... any way. he said to me one that there wasn't a day in his life he didn't decide to be happy and i completely believe him. for god's sake, the guy's 85 and he's all climbin' all on top of his roof festively drunk cracking himself up trying to catch a glimpse of the 4th of july fire works!
