Recollections In Christianity, Sacramento was started when the St. Rose Youth Group attended a Recollection retreat weekend in Vallejo, CA. Enthused by the Holy Spirit, the St. Rose Youth Group brought what they learned from the Vallejo retreat back home to share with their peers. In 1987, under the directorship of John Havey, the first retreat weekend was held in the Sacramento area at the St. John Vianney Parish. Under the spiritual guidance of Msgr. Edward Kavanagh, with the help of Sis. Conrada and Rollie Mamauag, the Rec. retreat movement has grown to touch the youth of many different parishes and communities of Sacramento and vicinity by teaching the importance of God, family, and friends. Today, the Recollection movement continues to be a dynamic way for us to reach out and bring Jesus Christ to others. Our purpose is to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ and to unite with Him and each other.
OUR PURPOSE
To Know Jesus Christ
Recognition of Jesus Christ: For us to know Jesus Christ, our community must become a place where His presence is a reality. Our community must also be a place where we can personally encounter Jesus Christ and allow ourselves to grow into a deeper relationship with Him.
“And by faith in his name, this man, whom you see and know, his name has made strong, and the faith that comes through it has given him this perfect health, in the presence of all of you.†Acts 3:16
"Rec. may not change your past as a Catholic, but it can teach you the ways of God and your religion and make your views of a Catholic a lot stronger and better for the rest of your life." Bro. Dwayne R.
To Love Jesus Christ
Charity: We are all in the same place. God has placed us side by side in life. We seek the same purpose in life: to be united in Jesus Christ. Since our purpose is the same, the path we must follow is also the same. By being faithful to the path that Jesus Christ has chosen for us, our love for Him grows and our unity with each other becomes a greater sign of his presence.
“So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Cor 13:13
“I've always been surrounded by people who love God, love each other, and appreciated one another. And after joining the Recollection, I found a whole other family that unites to rejoice and to do just the same!†Sis. Christine M.
To Serve Jesus Christ
The Mission of Recollection: When our love for Christ grows, the natural result is a real desire to serve Him. The Recollection retreat is our community's way of serving Jesus Christ.
“For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.†Mark 10:45
“Rec. has changed my life by allowing me to learn more of the values of my faith and by helping others out on their own journey, while being a 'DJ' (Disciple of Jesus) and doing what I can to help serve the Lord.†Bro. Gilbert G.
