About Me
Biography of SimonSpiess
Already in his mother’s womb, Simon felt the music vibrations of famous
musicians, the likes of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Bach, which has
proven to be a great influence in his present career as a musician.
His parents are Sylvie Spiess, a Kindergarten teacher and Michel Spiess,
an antique dealer. He first saw the light of day on the 11th of August, 1987.
He was raised and grew up in the exceptionally idyllic little town of Aarburg,
in the Canton Aargau.
After completing the obligatory high school and having had five years of
Saxophone lessons with his teacher, Beat Meier, he had the pleasure to enjoy
lessons for one year with his former mentor and idol, Roland Philip and
also with Fritz Renold by whom he could prepare for the entry examination
of the music school, in the category Jazz.
At the young age of seventeen, he began his studies at the music school in
Basel and was in the fortunate position to have tuition with his present mentor
Domenic Landolf, where he is also studying currently.
Simon could experience wonderful music moments in the music world
at a very early age. His firs performance he had in the local Funkband called
Infective. After that, he had performances with Roland Philip, Peter Wagner,
Marco Figini, Christian Niederer, Mark Hauser, Loris Peloso, Rene and
Rolf Mosele, André Kunz, Michael Chylewski, Peter Schärli, Tanya Blount
and Walter Belcher. During the Jazzaarconcerts he had experiences with Danny
Gottlieb, Danny McCasling, Kamaria Ousley, Kevin Ross, Randy Becker and
so on (Hip Hop, Funk, Rock, and most of all Jazz). He also had different studio
jobs.
Since 2006 he plays in his projects SIMON SPIESS QUARTET .
(with Daniel Roser – piano, Emanuel Schnyder – double bass, Robert Weder)
all with whom he can practice his untiring playing and truelly live the
inspiration he gets. Besides the quartet, he also experimented with free sounds
with the Trio band, inamely Simon Spiess – Tenorsax, Marco Nenninger – double
bass, Daniel Mudrack – drums. Performances as guest or bandleader in different
music directions always gives the young Saxophonist new inspiration and motivation.
Simon has gained great respect and recognition in the music world because of his
very sensitive character and of course, the very special Tenorsax sound, so typical
of this young man.
