Daniel's Background:
Dan Radcliffe, born Daniel Jacob Radcliffe on July 23, 1989, is from Fulham, a suburb just inside London, England. Dan enjoys the company of two very loving, supportive parents, as well as his two dogs. Regarding school, Dan is primarily tutored on the film set. Dan knew he wanted to "act" at the age of five. He unfortunately did not land a part in "Oliver Twist", a Charles Dickens television production, but went on to appear as "David" in the coveted Dickens classic, David Copperfield, released in 2000. Auditioning up against hundred's of boys, Dan was surprised to get the part which was suggested by a friend. In 2001, Dan took a small part (Mark Pendel) in John Boorman's "The Tailor of Panama." The film was released and written from John LeCarre's popular spy novel.
What happened next for Dan was unbelievable, and he landed the role of "Harry Potter", the famous, modern, literary character who stars in author J. K. Rowling's popular book series. After having seen Dan in "David Copperfield", Director Chris Columbus had Dan brought in for an audition. As luck would have it, Producer David Heyman spotted Dan with his parents sitting in a theatre while watching a play. David admits that he was "distracted" by Dan's potential to play Harry and after a meeting, both the Producer and Dan's parents agreed to have Dan audition. To Dan's surprise, while sitting in the bath, his father received a phone call and was told that Dan had the part of Harry Potter. Dan admittedly cried with happiness and even woke himself in the middle of the night to ask his dad if it was a dream! J. K. Rowling was in approval of Dan's portraying the character and is quoted as saying, "it was like being reunited with her long, lost son. Having seen Daniel's screen test, I don't think Chris Columbus could have found a better Harry." Dan and the rest of the young cast were called upon for a Photo Shoot in August of 2000. Upon the release of the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone in November of 2001, Dan had notably appeared on numerous covers of world famous magazines, as well as on popular television talk shows such as Rosie O'Donnell, Oprah, The Today Show, and many more throughout the United States and Europe.Dan went on to portray "Harry Potter" in the next five films adapted by J. K. Rowling's book series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Dan will also reprise the role of Harry in the last two films, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Filming for the sixth and seventh films has not yet begun.
In November 2002, Dan had a wonderful opportunity to appear on stage, making an appearance in London's West End in "The Play What I Wrote" by Hamish McColl, Sean Foley and Eddie Braben. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, this play invites a mystery guest each opening night to participate in the comedy skit for that evening. Dan explained "it was great fun, but a little scary." If you've never seen this play, it's definitely a "must see" if you happen to be near London's West End and on occasion, Broadway in New York City.In February 2007, Dan made is first stage debut in Peter Shaffer's EQUUS, showing at London's GIELGUD THEATRE on Shaftesbury Ave. Realizing that Dan's first attempt on live stage was going to welcome controversy due to the nature and storyline of the play, Dan proved critics and media outlets wrong, and earned rave reviews for his portrayal of Alan Strang in the acclaimed play which is considered one of the best English post-war plays of all time. It is also regularly studied in British Universities.
Dan admitted that he wanted to pursue a small role in between Harry Potter films 4 and 5, and in November 2005, Dan pursued an independent film called "December Boys", a story of four orphan boys based on Author Michael Noonan's novel. Dan portrays the character "Maps", the oldest of the four orphans. The film takes place in South Australia, one of Dan's favourite holiday spots. The film is slotted to be distributed world-wide, and released in the Spring/Summer of 2007. Dan is also beginning to make "guest" appearances on a number of comedy type variety shows such as Foley and McColl's "This Way Up" and HBO's "Extras."Dan will also star in the ITV Drama, "My Boy Jack" which was written by and also stars actor/writer David Haig. Dan will portray the role of "Jack", the son of Rudyard Kipling, one of Britains most prolific writers and whose legendary storytelling continues to delight millions today. The drama is based on the true story of Rudyard Kipling and his son Jack who was tragically killed during the First World ware. Dan will begin shooting during the summer of 2007.
