Rocking Horse Studio

About Me

Rocking Horse Studio is New England’s premier recording studio, combining the finest in analog and digital equipment with rooms designed by renowned acoustician Michael Blackmer. The rooms are large, comfortable, and inviting, perfect for inspiring magical performances. Drums, piano, strings, and horns sound amazing in our large room, while quieter instruments and voices come to life in our more intimate acoustic spaces.
Rocking Horse records your project on our Pro Tools HD system using our classic Trident Series 80B console and wide selection of boutique outboard equipment. We feature microphones from Telefunken, Neumann, Schoeps, BLUE, Royer, and many others. We are also proud of our collection of unique vintage keyboards and synths, including Mellotron M400, Hammond A100, Wurlitzer 206, Baldwin Fun Machine, numerous Casios, Moog Taurus, Story & Clark pump organ, Baldwin grand piano, Optigan MusicMaker, Omnichord, and others.
Rocking Horse is the home of producers Brian Coombes and David Pierog. A few recent projects that we have produced and recorded include Christian Cuff, Chris James, Will Kindler, Prospect Hill, Joe Mazzari, Jacob Cuff, Skamasutra, Djatmaterra, Soak, G-Money, and The Double Yellow. In addition, Brian and David have worked on a number of Godsmack side projects, including Another Animal.
The Rocking Horse team includes:
Brian Coombes – Producer/Engineer
Brian is Rocking Horse's in-house producer, recording engineer, and musician (keys/bass). Before starting Rocking Horse in 1999, he was a founding member of Tristan Park, a progressive rock band that was signed to the British record label GFT Ltd. The band recorded four CDs and toured extensively in Europe and North America before going into hiatus in 1998. He is also a member of Waking in the Blue, a modern progressive pop band.
David Pierog – Client Services/Producer

David is responsible for client services at Rocking Horse. As a drummer, he has studied under renowned percussionist Albert LaFlamme for many years exposing him to many differnet styles of music. He has a wide array of performing and recording credits to his name which include concert and jazz bands, percussion for musicals, cover bands and original songwriting.
David has worked with many great artists over the years, most recently Tony Rombola of Godsmack and Coby Carlucci and John Farias of Tractor Trailer.
Joey Pierog – Session Musician/Instructor
Joey Pierog is a Berklee trained musician who is a valuable member of the Rocking Horse pool of session musicians. Joey specializes in upright bass and bass guitar. He has appeared on numerous Rocking Horse productions, including Christian Cuff, Will Kindler, Chris James, Prospect Hill and others. He also teaches guitar, bass, and music theory at the studio.
