During the winter of 2004, Jan-Dirk and Johan came up with the idea to start an original South African Rock Band. A challenging four-month expedition followed - recruiting a womb of spring-talent, bearing contribution to this idea.Near the end of 2004, the band TOTH was born from the artistic union of five musicians: Jan-Dirk and Ervin on guitars, Johan on bass, Ruan on drums, and Héniel doing the vocals. This creative combination of talented musicians engraves a unique melodic sound on progressive rock - sometimes even upon a slice of older stone or metal.TOTH recorded a promotion-demo during December 2004, followed by Barney Simon playing Creating Within on his 5FM radio program The Night Zoo. Various live performances followed - ranging from Emperors Palace to the Blues Room. Through rough storms and turbulent tides, TOTHs flair kept soaring with vibrant sound.In May 2005, JP de Stefani of B sharp Studios recorded TOTHs first single - The Doubleness. The rest of the year was devoted to a variety of live shows.At the beginning of 2006 things really started to take off. Stage Magazine reviewed TOTHs music with a three out of five (3/5) rating. The Doubleness received airplay on a radio station in the area of Joliet, Chicago Illinois (USA), and even got requested a few times on the same station.On the 8th of March 2006, TOTH preformed with South African artists Karen Zoid and Chris Chameleon at the Kultuurskok-Music Festival.
