A Cappella Chor Tulln

About Me

Recanati, Italien 2007
ABOUT US
To do music independently, to form them, to feel to bump to the borders of own abilities - this is an experience and a challenge. On the 8th December, 1980 the choir was founded under the choirmaster Franz Pollatschek.
"It was full of suspense and thrilling when - on the 8th December, 1980 - for the first time young people in our house came together around with each other to sing and to found a youth choir." Franz Pollatschek
A Cappella Chor Tulln consists of people who are ready to rehearse intensely beside their professional and personal obligations once per week. We are an amateur choir, nobody from our rows finances his living by singing. It is the wish for carefully compiled and artistically interesting music literature of all style directions which brings together us. The resolute, continuous choral work comes first.
Hello Musical!
In 1984 and 1986 two musical concerts were stamping experiences from the foundation time of our choir. We trod new paths: On the stage there was a Big Band, in the hall there was a sound mixer, costumes were in demand – the work with choreography and lighting effects was absolutely new for us. We had managed important steps: Away from the traditional choral singing and to new literature.
Sacred Choral Music
To deal with choral music also means to deal with church music. The amount of wonderful music which was written for the church or for religious occasions is immense. These pieces of art are land marks of the choral literature and of our own musical work which one must work hard for and never forgets again.
Main Focus: Contemporary Music
In no epoch of the history of music, so much was written for choir as during the past 100 years. Contemporary music is always very special to us and always a challenge. We have dared to tackle difficult sheet music over and over again. Compared with the concert-goer, we are in a preferential position: The intensive work on the pieces of music creates a special knowledge and understanding.
International Competitons
To compete in art is a problematic thing. What should be judged, who should be the judge and what are the competition criteria? As an amateur choir from Austria we have to compete against conservatory choirs, which sometimes gives us the feeling that there are apples compared with pears. And yet: Our competitive participations were big successes and important goals for which we had to prepare intensely - and nice trips with nice people.
CHOIRMASTER GOTTFRIED ZAWICHOWSKI
Master of Arts Gottfried Zawichowski comes from Tulln, Lower Austria. In his youth he already took part in choirs and leads the A Cappella Chor Tulln since 1983.After he became addicted to singing and conducting, he soon found access to the Viennese choral scene. For ten years he was a member of the Arnold Schönberg Choir Vienna. He was active in national and international performances with this and other ensembles.According to studies of the music educational theory and economic educational theory he devoted himself to the area of the education and continuing education of choirmasters and is active with numerous seminars in whole Austria.A study trip to Stockholm where he was taught by Robert Sund and Eric Ericson rounded his education. For many years now Gottfried Zawichowski is active as a musical unit manager, editor of telecasts and presenter of choral music broadcastings for ORF (Austrian Broadcasting). As manager of the "Music Factory NÖ" he carries out the initiative "Music topically - New Music in NÖ" by order of the land NÖ (NÖ = Lower Austria).
A special concern to him is the music mediation, for example, within the scope of "aufhohrchen", "Klangturm St. Pölten", "Music Factory Edelhof", "Musical Youth of Austria " at the "Österreichischen Bundesjugendsingen" (Austrian Union Youth Singing Contest) and in collaboration with the "Tonkünstler Orchestra NÖ" (Sound Artist Orchestra). His activity is also reflected in a whole row of honourings.
TUESDAY EVENING - REHEARSAL
6 p.m.: Have I prepared all my music sheets? Where are the attendance lists? Who will be absent today again, who has apologised? Should I take my CD recording of the piece with me? Today I go a little earlier to the rehearsal room – I should prepare myself...
6:30 p.m.: With which piece should I begin the rehearsal, which afterwards? We don’t have enough time … One more snack? - No, later in the inn.
7 p.m.: I should relax, it’s seven o'clock - I still got time. Not so many singers have themselves excused today - hopefully it becomes a good rehearsal.
7:15 p.m.: (I am already in the rehearsal room.) I will practice a little bit and put up the chairs. Ah - the first singers are coming!
7:45 p.m .: "Good evening! Please get up, stretch, breathe out strongly...!"
