Jesus de Jerez was the artistic name of Jesus Maria Guillermoprieto, born in 1931, in Mexico City, he died in 1991, in San Diego, CA. Jesus performed in a variety of roles mostly in the arts world, including, concerts, TV commercials and even an appearance in the Johnny Carson Show, performing what could have been one of the first Flamenco performances on Television. Indeed, guitar playing was the reason he was most recognized. He performed in many places, but it was in the New York scene of the late 50’s and early 60’s where he found a loyal permanent audience. Jesus played with and learned his classical style from Andres Segovia, during this time also in New York, and as with so many guitar players, Segovia was his most influential teacher. Jesus de Jerez did not leave much music recorded, other than a couple of records: one of Spanish songs for children and one of Christmas Carols, also in Spanish. It has been suggested that he might have recorded another one, but it is not known with certainty. Any gentle reader who may have information on this record, or any other recording is asked to notify the family via this website. This myspace website is dedicated to Jesus de Jerez and it is for his family and friends with the hope that they will find good memories with the familiar sound of his guitar and his voice. This website is also dedicated to guitar players around the world that know what it is to make a living playing this most wonderful instrument.
