"Not everyone has the same journey. Nor does anyone share the same path. But we all were blessed with a purpose. And for this purpose we live and breathe. My name is Shanit. And music is my journey."As a child, I knew early on my destiny was to be a performer, seeking every and all opportunity to shine. I would create skits, and dance routines, and sing on table tops at family gatherings. Sometimes had even gotten caught singing in my sleep. I heard melodies in my head and began writing music, composing my first song at the age of 12.In high school, music was my refuge. I, like many others, turned to music to guide me. Janis Joplin, Billy Holiday and Aretha Franklin were just some of my truest friends and deepest inspirations. These women of song filled me with drive I had needed to sing and write night after night. And so I did, writing over 20 original copyrighted songs, and many more to be completed.
After graduating from Boston University, I decided to pursue my singing career in New York City. Gotham was a tough place to start out, but was the only place for me. It seemed like every one was a struggling artist in the big city. But, I knew that I would shine. Why else would such a little girl be blessed with such a powerful, soulful voice? A voice that would make people cry and feel? A voice that would make people smile? It was my destiny. And so on I continued.
Being a bartender in Manhattan..s hottest nightclub, I got great exposure for my dancing, wild style, and good looks. I met lots of people and worked with many producers. Compared vocally to the likes of Gwen Stefani and Debra Harry, I began writing and recording to cater to that specific genre; Rock, Punk, and Soul. That is when I found my truest voice.
After years of writing demos, finally, I got the break I was anticipating, the chance to sing the National Anthem for the Mets at Shea Stadium. It was that day in July that further solidified the inevitable. The only way to go from there is forward.
