Art. Making art with paints, making art with Macs. Making art alone, making art with other people. Pretty much making things, which is to me, so much better than taking them apart. New ideas, things that challenge my own conventions, insights. Postcards and old photographs from my family's amusement park. Tea. Loud music. Talking to people about their tattoos. Learning new kinds of push ups.
Anyone and everyone that lives outside of convention and inside of their passions, whatever they may be. Any who are actively trying to expand their lives or horizons. Also, someone that can show me how to fold fitted sheets.
I grew up in a very musical family filled with performers of every stripe. I started going to punk shows as a child and can't count all of the bands I've seen since. The unfortunate recipient of a list of everything I like would surely fall into a catatonic state, myself included. Suffice to say, I like music a lot.
Raiders of the Lost Ark, Amelie, Lost in Translation, This is Spinal Tap, old Sinbad Movies, anything by Satoshi Kon or Miyazaki, Bubba Ho Tep, VS, Life is Beautiful, Lone Wolf and Cub, Pan's Labyrinth, a bunch of others. I grew up around more Rogers and Hammerstein than I might have liked, and some of those have stuck with me too.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Dr. Who, Gankutsuou, Paranoia Agent, Firefly, Ergo Proxy, anything with Bruce Campbell, Battlestar Galactica. Lots of stuff on Youtube. Old Grey Whistle Test videos.
Nabakov, Neruda, Pulsipher, Gaiman, Harry Potter novels, Twain, Dahl, Zora Neale Hurston, Shelly, Stoker, Jackson, Murakami, Rumi, Kabir, many metaphysical and philosophical texts, and shelves full of others. Lots of art books.
